Rob THANK YOU!!!!! At 930p in Illinois and my house was 90 degrees. I installed a Honeywell digital thermostat in the winter. As I tried to turn the AC today it was not turning on. Viewed other videos and no help. Looked for the c wire per your video and boom ... it worked!!! Thank you again! Saved me money from making a call to HVAC.

What if you use a jumper to steal the g wire? Will that work?
@jim6236710 ай бұрын
If you have no C wire, can you not split the G wire by splicing 2 wires off of it so that you can also still use your fan? I mean these are low voltage wires so it should not be a safety issue. The only thing I could think of is loss of power by the division of the wire.
@StaticCreature223 жыл бұрын
All these videos about the c wire are missing "how you tell its a C-wire" so as not to confuse it with this "g-wire" that "might still work" is it just written on the wire? Or am I supposed to look at it and magically know "that's the c-wire I sense it" lol
@black10kevin3 жыл бұрын
my advice is to always look at the thermostats labeling and that will tell you what wire is what and then by process of elimination the wire left must be the c wire

replacing exact same thermostat w a new wifi thermostat. Like you, had the blue c wire tucked into the wall and wasn't connected to a terminal at the furnace either. checked the furnace and it already had a white wire connected to the c terminal. tried to twist together the unconnected blue wire with the white wire that was already connected to the c terminal (at the furnace) but still couldn't get the wifi thermostat to power up. Any ideas?

“My green wire is connected to G a blue wire to Y a cream wire connected to W and a red wire to R with a jumper to RC.My spare wire is yellow is this d C wire? I am starting to get the feeling that the blue wire connected to the Y is the actual C wire and that the thermostat was just connected wrong. Would this be correct? I pulled the harness out and found the c wire tucked away, followed your instructions to the furnace, and one of the two wiring harnesses coming into the wall has a blue c wire hooked up to the junction and the other is coiled up around the harness,. What should I do?

So I have a blue wire connected to the Y but the yellow is tucked behind. I’m assuming the C wire would be the yellow wire and the blue is used as the Y wire 🤣. Why would they do that
@RobSomeKnowledge2 жыл бұрын
Hahaha that is a great question that I don’t know a logical answer to! But also the reason I explain to not always assume the standard color coding was followed and to actually use the correct process to make sure the correct wires are being connected! Yet I still get people that argue that BLUE is ALWAYS the C wire. Lol!

It's great if you have a wire wrapped in the back. But you didn't clearly identify how we could isolate the C wire. Is there a voltage or amp going through the wire that we can identify it with?. Otherwise the video is kind of useless.
@civilization574 жыл бұрын
So look to see if you have a blue wire coiled behind the unit? Really? That's your answer?
@RobSomeKnowledge4 жыл бұрын
Yes...? You either have a c wire or you don’t. Thermostat wiring comes as a bundle. So most installers just tuck it back into the wall if it’s unused. It’s not like there’s some random place in your house you’re going to find it. 😂 What’s so confusing?
@heatherashbeck79613 жыл бұрын

@@RobSomeKnowledge what if you don’t have a C wire at all?

Then you’ll either have to run a new thermostat wire or most smart thermostats have a C wire adapter you can use
