How To Get Respect Without Being A Bully - Jordan Peterson
goo.gl/DLouoh
Jordan Peterson recently expertly handled a debate during an interview with BBC's Channel 4 news (The video was called: Jordan Peterson debate on the gender pay gap, campus protests and postmodernism). And JBP did it without being a bull or being aggressive. So how do we get respect without being a bully? Well, we often think that getting respect and being aggressive go hand in hand. Because unfortunately, it’s often the bully that gets the most respect in the schoolyard and even in the workplace. But Jordan Peterson is an exemplar of a different way to generate massive amount of respect. So in this video we’re going to explore 3 main things he does that force people to respect you WITHOUT being a bully.
Now, we focused a lot on respect in this video but that's actually just one out of four emotions that are going to create an amazing first impression on anyone cross-culturally. Now, if you're curious with the other three emotions that you want to create in that person are to make an amazing first impression, I made a video on that that breaks down what those four emotions are so that you can start using them today to consistently make killer first impressions.
0:30 Jordan Peterson calls it "pacing your reality"
4:50 Jordan Peterson tells stories effectively
6:54 Jordan Peterson uses archetypal stories

@KaiserSoze679
@KaiserSoze679 6 ай бұрын
Except he's really not. Charisma is literally defined as a compelling attractiveness or charm that inspires devotion in others. When more than half of the people who are aware of your existence hate your guts, and the only people who seem to see that charm or attractiveness in you are the ones that already agreed with your obvious prejudices, clearly there's nothing "compelling" there. You wanna see real charisma? Look to guys like The Rock, Terry Crews, Keanu Reeves, Chris Hemsworth - the kind of guys that next to nobody has a bad word to say about, no matter what walk of life they come from. That's charisma. I guess I'd give you speech in that he has a good vocabularly and speaks with confidence and conviction.... but I mean, so do dictators. So do sociopaths. So do cult leaders (which frankly I'd argue he's verging on himself.) That's not only not always a good thing, but in the wrong person it's a very dangerous quality.

I was in a very elevated state of anxiety at the time. My condition would be obvious to someone like him, but for me, from the moment we shook hands I felt the immediate change in my demeaner. An immediate calming down, foot off the gas, take a moment to breath type of change. The type of antidote a guy like Jordan Peterson is very good at administering. It felt real and it felt sincere. Like he took the weight from my shoulders and carried it away. Apparently it was noticeable 'cause when I went back upstairs to my son's room I had quite the glow on. The first point is what I have learned from many good debate session and I have been using it ever since, it is easier to change people mind that way, by seeing things through others point of view, try to understand their points, looking for a common ground in an argument is very important

When I'm in an argument I always make sure the other person feels heard and understood. Just to be clear, not everyone has something important to teach you. But act that way. People try to pin JP down on that one all the time. It's just a concession that you don't know everything.

Well, everyone has something, positive, negative, as examples that one can learn from. Every person, no matter their intelligence or education or life's circumstances was made as an individual.... with no one on earth being 100% identical. Every person has value.... maybe some contribute to mankind more than others, but there is a takeaway, large or miniscule from everyone. Hard to remember that sometimes for me as I let other things become more important than people sometimes. I need to be cognizant of that always. Have a good one, friends.

I'm commenting before watching the video, which is wrong but here we go: If you don't respect yourself, like true respect from the bottom of your heart, then nobody will. Maybe some will pretend they do, but that's all, no true respect. Here is the thing: love yourself, then you will respect yourself and others as a consequence. Then, you won't need others to show love or respect to you anymore. Another key point: respectable individuals will respect you. Assholes will disrespect you, no matter what. Peace.

In a world where most people are trying to "one up" the other person, JP is trying to educate AND better the world around him; he's doing that by making each person to be responsible about their own lives and with time they will improve their families, friends, communities. Don't mistake respect with fear. Fear can only keep people in line as long as it persists. Respect does not need constant show of force if even at all. Fear and respect do go hand in hand, however it's not as simple as it sounds. Fear(itself) is not respect as it invokes pressure and an uncomfortable, defensive yet cautious mindset into people. When feared, people listen to you indefinitely to avoid confrontation and truthfully lack affection and *Respect* towards you. Respect is when someone projects your worth and has affection for you because they feel you are affectionate towards them yet they *Fear* the absence of your affection for them. I respect God so I hold fear towards him. Fear is the absence of respect. Respect is the absence of hatred.

OR IF I MIGHT HAVE, JUST NEVER GAVE IT ANY REAL THOUGHT OR ATTENTION !! I WOULD RATHER READ A GOOD BOOK WELL WRITTEN ..AND GET MY INFORMATION, INSPIRATION , IDEAS , THOUGHTS ON " THINGS " FROM THAT AS APPOSED TO A "MOVIE" !? I THINK OF MOVIES AS MORE OF , IT WAS ENTERTAINING ,FUNNY, SCARY , SAD , INTERESTING, STRANGE , DIFFERENT, BORING , BAD , POORLY MADE , ON VERY RARE OCCASIONS WOULD I REMEMBER ANYTHING FROM A MOVIE AS IMPORTANT , UNLESS IT WOULD BE A DOCUMENTARY ..A TEACHING MOVIE , HISTORICAL , "IF" AND ONLY "IF" IT WAS ACCURATE !! I JUST DO NOT HOLD MOVIES IN HIGH ESTEEM ! AND I HATE TO WATCH A MOVIE MORE THEN ONCE .. MY RECALL IS VERY GOOD ! SO I DON'T WANT TO SIT THROUGH IT AGAIN !!! THAT'S THE VERY "HEIGHT OF BOREDOM" TO ME !!

I don't know whether it's conscious or not, but Peterson acts as a resonating beacon of empathy, so much to the point that he becomes overwhelmed with emotion while commentating on the human experience. This guy feels everything, probably to the point that he might carry it like a burden, and be a major depressive and little else. But no, turns out he is strong and smart and caring enough to wonder, in his own misery, 'How can I transform this tragedy into a lesson of resillience for my students?' F-ing incredible. People think he's a con artist or a carnival barker of some sort but they don't know what the hell they're talking about. JP - you either get it or you don''t.

He is brilliant and a brilliant clinician- a part of that is the training one has to be a therapist or psychologist though. He's completed 10's of thousands of clinical hours and these "verbal tricks" are not tricks but essential pieces of rapport building and effectiveness in therapy and happy to be very effective in communicating with others as well.

"Clean up your room" means also to start getting your live in order in little steps. It's the idea that if your life is a mess, surely there is always one little part that you can do to make your life a little better. This in the end spirals you upwards. You don't just go out fight the dragon, you first get your armour fixed and think about what exactly you will do, which ultimately raises your chances of killing the dragon.

This is good guidance when interacting with normal nonpsychotic people. These good generally applicable effective approaches are counterproductive and ineffective when one interacts with a Narcissist, a Sociopath or a Psychopath. This is important to understand considering 3 out of every 100 people are psychotic.

Sean Henry Newman wtf? You clearly don't understand Marxism. Peterson is a wonderful speaker and sounds so smart and reasonable he appears to make sense, just think it over a bit, go a little deeper and you'll start to question his subtext. He's really very simple and not all that helpful for most people
@sabretooth9136
@sabretooth9136 6 жыл бұрын
sylvieis agreed. Peterson also often sounds very bitter and angry at colleges - he doesn't come across well at all imo. He has a very rabid cult though who seem to believe he's God and can do or say no wrong.
