I work at vet clinic - was recently purchased by a new dr. I have now been pushed into receptionist and have a desk job - I don't care for it and I have expressed to him how it was not what I wanted. We have been working together now for 4 months. It started off great, he showed much gratitude with me helping him transition. But now, he is ignorant at times and belittling. I have yet to witness him treat other staff that way. I am at a loss and am ready to walk away. I have yet to confront him. I just took some notes from your video hope it helps!

Hi Michael, I would like too say this vid has been the best informal assisting guide to reflect upon the internalized thought process to truly address in a positive way staying at a company you live to be at, as opposed to just quitting without exploring options. 🙏👍 P.s. keep you posted ✌️

The problem is that what I'm unhappy about can't be changed. They are forcing us to come to the office three days a week soon. I'm jumping ship for something fully remote.

I'm sorry to hear that - I am hearing that from a LOT of people unfortunately. Have you at least given them the chance to hear you and see if there's any way of things changing or creative solutions to give you more flexibility? I know a lot of companies want all their employees back 100% - I think they need to be clear on why that matters and they need to make sure they are giving employees a compelling reason to want to come back.

@@MichaelKerrInspiringWorkplaces There's no way to be fully remote - I've asked because I want to move out of Philly to Florida. In general, I think commuting is a waste of time/gas. I think it's hypocritical that companies claim to care about the environment then force their employees to commute.

Unfortunately my manager’s “up and out” philosophy has me backed into a corner. I’m doing a great job, outstanding marks on my reviews, but I’m absolutely miserable. The only path is up to a higher level of management (no appeal) or… nothing. There is no way back to what I used to love doing at this company. Lateral movements aren’t available either. This is especially painful as my company is AWESOME for those in my previous role. And then I had to spoil it by getting promoted. Should I still have this talk, or should I quietly search for another job?

I am so sorry to hear this. I know of so many people who sadly are in the same boat, including myself over two decades ago! Without knowing your particular circumstances, my advice is still to always try and have an honest conversation with your boss (or whoever you need to) to try and find a solution. Life is too short to work in a soul-draining job, so although of course you have to be careful that it won't backfire on you, I still think if you are that miserable, perhaps you owe it to yourself to at least try?

@@MichaelKerrInspiringWorkplaces You’ve convinced me to try. I’m going to be very strategic with my timing and approach just in case she walks me out. Thank you for replying to my question/comment.
