Another great video! U always do a great job explaining everything. Thank u for the videos. You’re a huge help to us trying to keep our trucks on the rd, much appreciated buddy

Good info. I'm gonna forward this to my mechanic so he can find the leak I may have. I could do this myself but I think buying expensive tools just for one truck is not financially smart.

Another Great video, We usually just pressurize the engine straight to the turbo inlet in whatever the engine make model is. But I agree with Norwood . I was hoping on episode 7 of DIESEL TALK. We want our weekly dose of DIESEL TALK. I better make another donation then huh?

+Joel Lagpacan I'll happily use any extra cash you have laying around, but I'm working on a video in the Ape dungeon right now, it's a video I've been getting a lot of requests on. Then I'm getting onto Diesel Talk number 7. It'll be out this weekend.

So ran into your video and decided to test a cac the way you other side on. Wow!! found air going into fuel injector #6 crazy!! But now I’m lost what would allow air travel through my injectors and to my fuel lines?? Totally lost

I'm having a hard time pressurizing the system past 22 psi and pressure dropping quickly. Also while doing it I hear what sounds like an air leak coming from the air compressor. Turns out while I'm pressurizing the system, air is going through the line thats attached to the intake into the compressor head and going out the discharge line. When I remove that line and add a plug in the intake, I can pressurize the system more easily. All the way up to 30 psi and when closing off the air supply the psi drops much slower

So what was leaking at that clamp? Was it not tight or broken? Is there suppose to be a gasket? I just redid my exhaust manifold that was cracked and ever since I can’t get over 25#. I took the turbo housing apart to make sure my fins weren’t damaged and now I’m wondering if there is suppose to be a gasket between the snail shells that isn’t there.

Thanks for the video! Got a 3208 in a RV. Tested the CAC and all tubing with 0 leaks. Hooked the intake up and I'm getting pretty good leak i can hear around the #2 cylinder. Not coming from the vent, sounds like its in the head. Rotated the engine a bit to make sure the valves aren't in overlap. Engine runs fine, but is lacking power and wont produce more than bout 7psi boost. LOts of black smoke. Any idea what might be leaking in there? Bad valve adjustment?
@randygonzalez62509 ай бұрын
I'm very new learning but I'm curious if you ever found out (4 years ago ;D) what the problem was, my first guess hearing your details is maybe a clogged DPF obstructing exhaust flow, which would put inordinate strain on valvetrain (exhaust valves, where you heard leaking) & of course diminish power to the turbo thereby compounding the problem of black smoke (i.e. lack of air = more unburnt fuel on top of the dpf being unable to remove the carbon to begin with).

My 14L 2007 Detriot blue a clamp today on the bottom of the turbo going to the cac. I heard a loud bang( shot gun). Instantly shut it down and coasted to shoulder. I found some oil. Maybe 2 table spoons of oil in the bottom of the turbo elbow. I cleaned it and reinstalled a new clamp. I inspected the top inlet of the turbo. Checked Finns. All looked great. Barley any movement on the shaft. Drove it for an hour and took boot and checked for oil. No oil. Boot stayed on just fine. What could of caused that ? Truck runs fine. No lose of power. No codes. No noises. Do those clamps just blow like that? And why was there oil inside the elbow at the bottom of the turbo ? But after I replaced the clamp the oil didn’t come back ? The oil did not make it past the bottom elbow into the main tube going to the cac. Thanks in advance for the responses.

At the end of this video you said you can only test to 1 or 2 PSI because it is so big on the inlet of the turbo. I am wondering if it is because the surface has so many square inches and would make a giant force, or more importantly are there any seals that would be damaged because the inlet should be at atmosphere and you would cause damage. I have seen this on pumps and know it is real, I just and not familiar with turbos. Thanks.

Was wondering if you can do any videos on 425 B model for hiw to time the injector pump and rebuild the timing advance?
@johngoldsmith66294 жыл бұрын
The key on VTU's is engine serial number to know what you have. 3406 B/C VTU's has numerous updates. You have a four bolt or a eight bolt. If you have a eight bolt a few different design's of them. Never reuse the bolts. Only ones are the larger allen bolts. On the four bolt you have early design and a later design. Early design can slip and no fix for them, replace carrier and wait until it fails again, (7FB 1 and up, 4MG1-03599). They was able to fix the slip on later design. Early design on the later engines has a filter in fuel system camshaft. Always replace it when VTU is removed. Parts book or SIS is not updated to show best parts to use. The very last engine's, 8PN's are correct in parts. As well as most of the 3ZJ's. NEVER adjust the screws in front. If you do, only fix is putting the timing indicator group on and graph it. Best way to time these, have pin in fuel system. Have mounting bolts finger tight. 7FB's and 4MG's 1-03599, your OK. All other engines, make sure carrier is pushed in towards fuel system. Turn engine until bolt goes into flywheel on TDC number one. Remove bolt and get a seal pick and place in hole. Back engine up until engine locks up. If you want to advance it some, pull pick out and give a SLIGHT BUMP, still backwards. Torque new bolts on VTU to forty one ft lbs. Remove pin in fuel system and back engine up more than thirty degree's. Now go in engine rotation and have someone holding pin and bolt. If bolt goes in first, your retarded and have to start over. If they go in at the same time, your dead on. If the pin goes in first, take you seal pick and feel in the hole how much you like until the bolt is dead center. Depends on which side you check flywheel. Exhaust side flywheel is coming up, pump side going down. I don't like over half a bolt hole off. Half or less is good, if you want it advanced slightly. Now remove pin, bolt or seal pick and finish assembling. PEEC engines unless you have ECAP or ET you can't calibrate the sensor. Putting cover on you have to wind up the bell crank.

if u do just the CAC, What is a ok psi drop over a 2-3mins? whats the standard. thanks
@AdeptApe8 жыл бұрын
+kwmiked So if you cap the CAC it shouldn't leak at all, if it does you definitely have a leak. Now I'm not sure off the top of my head what the spec is, but if you can watch the needle move it might be time for fixing the CAC.
@kwmiked8 жыл бұрын

You know I've really wanted to get one, but our shop doesn't have one and they are like $1000 to buy outright. So no, I haven't used one, but would like to have one, they are super versatile and great for automotive troubleshooting I've seen.
