Please do some more videos on this meter as it relates to the megger. I am a maintenance tech and I earned a degree in electrical but some of the functions are hard to understand how to navigate through.

Hi Juan - What are you specifically looking to learn about AC Compressors?
@juanolivo47045 жыл бұрын
@@fluke I'm sorry, can this meter check the windings on an AC compressor and a small video would be nice.

I bought fluke 1587FC yesterday, but i had doubts about the description assembled in USA , where is the manufacturing country?
@fluke2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. You'll find that various components are sourced from many countries - but if it says assembled in the USA, then that's where it was put togehter ;-)

Since this is a 480V motor, why use 1000V instead of 500V considering each phase carries an average of 277V and in case of a fault may not carry more than 500V?

He said the range has to be doubled around 1:10 minutes

When you test the insulation of a motor winding, you don't test for what's its rated at. The insulation test is a stress test, doubling the voltage puts a heavy duty load on the windings, and if the windings hold, then your insulation is solid. If it doesn't hold, and you're bleeding to another winding or to ground, then you have a compromised winding. Motors dead at that point most likely, or extremely weak depending on how bad the leakage is.

What kind of file format is used for downloading test results? MS Excel or some sort? What is the data sampling rate? What info can be included in the downloaded file?
@fluke2 жыл бұрын
Peter - thanks for your questions: The data sent from 1578FC to phone/app is a binary file. It can be exported as XLS, CSV, or PDF. You can add text and voice notes, and assign the measurement to Asset and/or work order.

After you buy the thousand dollar meter you get to pay for an app subscription that allows you to actually use it. That's Fluke innovation.

Could this device be used to check whether a capacitor leaks or not?
@f1reguy587 Жыл бұрын
Leaks? You can keep a test over time but if you remain connected, your meter would consume the charge. Thats my understanding so far…

I own a Fluke 1587 FC Insulation Multimeter and every time I try to use the PI or DAR functions, the value displayed on the screen is "> 2.2 GOhm" at 1000V which means that the actual reading could be more than 2 GOhms?. After around 20-30 seconds, I receive an error message, and "Err" is shown on the screen. However, after watching your video that had DAR and PI values displayed, is it because the readings are within the range of the multimeter? Can anyone offer insight into why I'm receiving this error and how I can resolve the issue? Thank you in advance for your help.
@waxstache10 ай бұрын
Did you find some info for that? I have the same issues
@vincentfrancissotto10 ай бұрын
@@waxstache I received a table from Fluke regarding the interpretation of DAR and PI values: DAR 0-1.0 and PI 0-1 is Dangerous. DAR 1.0-1.3 and PI 1-2 is Poor. DAR 1.3-1.6 and PI 2-4 is Good. DAR 1.6 and above and PI 4 and above is Excellent. Therefore, if you're receiving an error message during the PI or DAR tests, it actually indicates an Excellent result, meaning your insulation resistance is higher than the meter's display range. This is a good sign for insulation testing!

I’ve just bought the fluke 1587 FC. Can fluke or anyone else inform me why it comes up with error when using pi and dar timed measurements on it? The measurements are holding to it’s maximum resistance on each setting yet it says err after about 1 minute. Thanks.

This video is incorrect how to use this FLUKE tester and incorrect how to test motor for Insulation Resistance. I'm not sure this video is made originally by FLUKE. Insulation Resistance on motor is done by Polarisation Index PI what this FLUKE tester provides.

I was taught to megger phase to phase as well not only to ground ? The insulation could also start to go bad there not just to ground. On that test you should see your resistance keep in building. Thanks for nothing I guess horrible video
@manganiphiri43313 жыл бұрын
If the motor is connected in star configuration you would get zero.
@Emilyproudlock2413 жыл бұрын
It's good practice to check resistance between the phases they should be balanced. Then you only need mega one phase
