How to test a printer Heater Fuser Lamp

How to check a Printer/Copier heater fuser lamp with a multimeter. The lamp of the fuser unit is one of the most common part to fail.

0 seconds ago Brother HL-2270DW printer. Is 2 lamps used depending on mains voltage (120v or 240v)? Or is the lamp PWM switched and only one lamp is used internationally? Changing this printer from 120v to 240v is only about the fuser, yes? The power supply is international, yes?

@@davecc0000 Thank you! The high voltage power supply have two different codes so I think there are two versions, 110 and 220V. I don't konw the lamp of that Brother model but the lamps are often 110V or 220V, so I think they are different too

Thanks very much for your posting. Whn I printing a bit more, say starting 30 pages continuously, my Brother MFC-L6700DW starting to smell burn plastic. I believe it's from the film plastic tube in the upper roller whr the heat lamp is underneath. Actually, I've opened, cleaned it & put new grease. I use Super Lube multi-purpose synthetic grease until 450 F (232 C). Should I use higher working T ? Thanks.

I think it's normal that a printer starts lightly smell plastic. May be the environment is too cold or humid

@@viandant5 thanks mate. It has strong smell plastic burn. What's the temperature of the lamp in a laser printer ? One says 400 C other says 200 C. It's normal humidity & not too cold room (22-25 C).

@@joeyahoo4493 150 C is the temperature of the surface of the fuser roller. THe heater is more than 200 C

Hi i have a borken fuser lamp in a Canon CLBP 360/Apple Color Laserwriter but I don't know what exact model it is. Where can I find which model of fuser lamp it is ?

You mean the value? I haven't manuals of this printer. These lamps are custom-made, I think you can only buy it from a Canon spare part reseller

May be the thermistor, a dirty thermostat, the heating element, a worn fuer roller
