Erm that motor didn't have a start capacitor? Seems it's not at full speed without it? Most A/C units do have one.
@More350Power6 жыл бұрын
surprisingly this one did not require one. I thought the same thing but the wiring schematic and the way it was wired when I tore the guts out of the window unit didnt have one in it, just for the compressor.

Can a bad fan motor damage a new capacitor? My fan stopped spinning in my ac unit. I put in a 40/5/440 capacitor (made by different company than what was in unit...both are 40/5/440). The fan ran for about 45 min then stopped and would not turn on again. Both capacitors are rated -6% +6%...whatever that means.
@More350Power9 жыл бұрын
Bryan McDaniel the plus and minus 6 percent is the tolerance range so when you test them if they are plus or minus 6 of what they are rated, they are considered ok. I believe. a bad motor can damage a capacitor though sometimes you can get a bad cap to begin with......

Good video Question : I have a one and a half ton 220volts split unit AC. After few seconds of turning it on the clamp meter reads 22A then rise to reach 37A for few seconds then it stops and the clamp meter reads zero or 0.1A What could be the problem?
@More350Power4 жыл бұрын
It sounds like something could be fried, capacitor, motor..... hard to say without seeing it. Do you know what the RLA is on the unit ?

@@More350Power Thank you for your answer I will check the capacitor. I will try to find out the RLA of the motor. Thank you.

I have an old 20 year old YORK condenser unit I think its a 3 ton anyway I want to wire it up I have 4 wires on motor white and black and two brown one of the browns has a white strip. My question which side of the capacitor takes the brown wire with the strip??? or does it matter because I have a capacitor without markings.
@More350Power10 жыл бұрын
Usually it doesnt matter which side of the run capacitor the leads go to. I have an air handler blower that has two brown leads going to its run capacitor but no markings on the cap itself as to polarity. There is usually a schematic inside the condenser units themselves. I have been trying to get ahold of a york unit for years... more specifically the york stellar series that has the letters Y O R K cutout in the metal going down the side of the unit. Old, but good units they are.
@LubaLuba110 жыл бұрын
so is it possible to have a two capacitors I am so confused which of the four wires go where Blk, white, brown and brown w/white strip
@More350Power10 жыл бұрын
Danny Diet you usually have two or one combined capacitor in a condenser unit. The compressor uses one and the fan motor uses the other. Usually the fan motor capacitor is about 5 microfarads and the compressor 30 to 45 give or take. There should be a diagram on the motor or the inside of the electric compartment on the condenser to state where the wires go. If I had to guess, I would say the two brown leads go to the capacitor and your white and black are your two hots as with 220, you are combining two hots. It is possible the fan motor is 120 volts as well, as usually a white and black lead indicates neutral and hot on 120 volt electric items and red & black or black & black is common on 220 volt items. There are a lot of configurations out there.... if you can find a model number of the motor or condenser you should be able to find a diagram which would tell you for sure how things go together.

So all seems to work good except AC unit outside stays on after thermostat turns off. What could this be? I did not change contactor with switch yet. Could this be the problem?
@More350Power10 жыл бұрын
It could be or the wiring could be wired in such a way its bypassing the contactor. Also, sometimes the contactors burn contacts and even when they seem to withdraw from closed position carbon from arcing or melting of the contacts can keep it closed and thus the condenser keeps running. Or, the relay in the air handler and or furnace is not ceasing to send the 24 volts to the contactor, though that command is usually done by the thermostat via the yellow wire.

hello there, When I turn on my air conditioner fan starts working, and the house starts cooling, but after running for about 10 minutes the fan make a squeaky noise and stops working and the compressor overheats. Somebody came here and said that it was the fan motor going bad and that I need a new motor. Can you let me know if motor starts what could be the reasons it stops? Thank you.
@More350Power6 жыл бұрын
It sounds like the bearings are going bad in the fan motor. That would probably be the source of the squeaking noise and as the motor heats up it seizes. I had an ac unit like that. Would run fine cold, but once the motor got warm it wouldnt spin. In fact after the compressor would over heat, the breaker would trip as well.
@ZanesFacebook2 жыл бұрын
I had this with the blower motor in my furnace in a central air setup. When the heat was on, it would make a squeaking sound. Replaced the motor (very easy), for about $54 on my unit, and it's silent now. Fwiw my furnace is about 22 years old and I believe the fan motor was the original
