Great video. My Jeep died tonight and this will help me troubleshoot it. If you're near the Target in D'Iberville I might need some help haha.

Thank you for the easy instructions. I have a fairly new (6 months) battery not holding a charge on a 2001 Camry with 200k miles. I’ve never checked an alternator before so was hesitant to try by myself. Now I can! It’s the next step then on to the other possible causes of battery drain. Great video!

Have you done the mult- meter test from HF? I have several free meters as gifts HF. Sit as many as you have an rest off same battery at same time to see how accurate they are to each other?
@SkillSavvyDIY5 ай бұрын
No I haven't. All I use is Fluke multimeters. They are one of the most accurate multimeters in the world at 0.5% to 0.025%

0.0 volts from alternator to positive terminal?

Great video To the point Quick and easy I have a 110 amp on my F350 super duty. Do you recommend I get a higher amp alternator if I pull a fifth wheel and have truck and rv lights,ac,radio and phone chargers on when traveling at night?
@SkillSavvyDIY3 ай бұрын
Your F350 came with a substantial alternator since it most likely came with a towing package with a towing module for trailer brakes and etc. Before I purchased a higher amp alternator, I would first see if the one you already have can easily handle the added load without having any excessive voltage drop.

What does it mean when it reads 12.3 volts on the battery when car is off but 0.1 volts when car starts
@SkillSavvyDIY4 ай бұрын
Is it starting up and running, or is it reading 0.1 while cranking? The starter will pull down to about 9.6 volts while cranking but anything lower than that then you have a bad battery or a bad cable causing some serious voltage drop
@ChristopherHudetz6 күн бұрын
I think a better name for this video would be Continuity Check. With the ignition off, use the resistance check function (center setting upside down horseshoe). Should read 0 ohms (and give a beep).

It’s just a simple voltage drop test to test for bad connections or bad cables.

Yeah after spending $129 on a new battery lol. It lasted almost 6 years so that's actually pretty darn good.
