How To Test And Repair H.I.D. Headlight - Part 2 : Repairing The H.I.D. Ballast

Repairing the ballast's electronic inverter is a bit challenging but not impossible. You want to watch out for component rating though, and when replacing the electrolytic capacitors, higher temperature grading version is strongly recommended, as the whole thing will get quite warm in operation which is fairly normal for switchmode power supplies. Potting is a b*tch to remove though. Also, to bolster the reliability a bit, you may also want better inverter ballasts, like those from Hylux, as I have found that my Hylux A2088 ballast in the modified Cyclops Thor Colossus halogen spotlight work surprisingly well, especially on a Lithium-ion battery pack installed into the spotlight and of course I went with 35 - 39 Watts ceramic metal halide bulbs for this thing so that way it lasts a rather long time, always ready when I actually need it.

Yes, I just compared the resistance reading of both ballasts and guessed that the ballast with broken cables is working. So I just fixed the cables.
