I have been watching your videos for several months now. You sir are amazing! Thank you so much for your time and videos. The education I have received from you is priceless. I knew very little about precious metals and the recovery and refining of them but it was something that has always been of great interest to me. I have been collecting precious metal scrap for quite a while. I have purchased everything needed for processing and refining. I have also built myself a proper room and work space with a hood for good ventilation. This is something I really enjoy doing. So once again thank you for the knowledge and the time and resources put into your videos. Please keep them coming my friend. ☺

You nailed the narration, I enjoyed it and had not a single issue listening as to your cadence, tone, or style. You held my interest throughout and I forgot I was listening on purpose. Very well done.

AWESOME!!! I finally had a method to ensure my Stannous was working properly since I had never made it. Put my 18K test solution on card fingers, then on a Q-tip, and used another Q-tip to put a small drop of my Stannous on the fluid from the card... = INSTANT BROWN. Good solution so my biggest test is now behind me! Thank you for this idea since I didn't have a way to ensure my stannous was good without first dissolving gold in a batch!

So, I had some relays that were military grade relays. Golden color throughout, and with the Stannous method they showed brown/black color after surface test. Today, I put them in 60ml HCl, 20ml Peroxide 3% and before I even finished the peroxide addition the mixture was already turning greenish/golden in color. My figuring is that the base metal which was similar in color was copper. Does that sound correct? I had 8 grams of the relay arms, which I cut in half for the acid to get to middle layer.

This is just a trial run, not a serious one. Testing of methods. That is why there is such a small amount of material.

My Windows 7 PC is 10 years old. It can't keep up with these gigantic video files. My new machine, arriving today, is an Intel Core i7 with 16GB ram, 4GB graphics card and 2TB hard drive will allow me to do some nice voice over video narrations. Trying to narrate as I shoot the video ends up making the videos too long. Thank you for the feedback.

I have no experience in doing this, but I'm very curious. Why don't you incinerate the boards to extract the metals before chemically separating them?

I have a doubt on one board I got. It's the thir board I tested. Can you please tell me what you think, if it is gold or not? I don't know if the board is not gold of is the stannous solution was not well made, what is your opinion? The video is on my videos named gold test boards.
@sreetips
@sreetips 7 жыл бұрын
I looked at the video. It looks like you had a brown stain indicating gold in solution, but it was not vivid and conclusive. You need some standard test solutions to check you stannous chloride with. Measure out 0.1 gram of gold, dissolve in AR, denoxx, and add dilute HCl to 100ml level. This will give you a standard test solution of 1 gram of gold dissolved in 1 liter of liquid. You can then test your stannous chloride testing solution against a known standard and use it to compare the tests you did on these boards. I'll make a video to show how to do it.

The silver test solution is about 1 gram of potassium dichromate dissolve in 25ml of 50/50 conc. nitric acid/distilled water. I'll make a video that shows how to make the test solution and how to use it properly. You can buy potassium dichromate on eBay.

Awesome work man. I was just wondering, if the heat from the lamp caused the gold to react to the solution, why you didnt apply heat to the first solder unmasking? Did you already just know there wasnt gold in that area? And should heat be applied to each area tested? Thank you.
@sreetips
@sreetips 7 жыл бұрын
Heating is not necessary. The testing solution is acid. Cold acid reacts more slowly than warm acid. I heated the solution with the lamp to speed the process. I could have just as easily applied the test solution and waited for five minutes with no heat to achieve the same result.

Purdy Neat How The SNCL2 Precipitate's the Au even when there is HNO3 Present....i have found most "Visible" Gold on Ewaste is about 6k...i ran into some Ram Spacers that were Yellow and they were Gold Under the Yellow insulate. And a Quarter Size Cpu out of one of the first portable Ausy made PC...Had 24k on it...A Good Test is Scratching a line onto something like the Bottom of a Dinner Plate Or Regular Jewlers Testing Stone...Ceramic Wall Tile would work...Now you can see the Scratch line Stay Or Dissapear...All the Soldering Joints should be 95/5 ..Lead Or 50/50 has pretty much been Outlawed...Silver in those Soldering Joints but A weak Amount...Also Antimity.....Everything but lead...One Feller was adding H2O2 To HNO3 And Dipping them to Remove all the Silver....Look's Like Fun.....Ha.....:)

You can buy the test solution on eBay. It's the same thing as the solution that I use, only I make it myself. It comes in a small plastic bottle just like other test acids found in gold testing kits. The solution will look red or brown in color while in the bottle. It does lose effectiveness over time. That's why I make my own. I can add a little potassium dichromate and a squirt of nitric to rejuvenate it when it starts to give questionable results. I'll try to get a video of how I make mine out real soon.

It is nitric acid and hydrochloric acid. It will color fingers yellow at the very least. At worst it will burn your skin. I accidentally put my arm on a touch stone that had testing acid on it. I didn't notice it right away until it started burning. It caused a burn with blister and scab that lasted a week the size of a quarter on my fore arm.

I tried narration in the past but it made the video much longer. Sounded like I was rambling. Plus I hate videos where the author goes on and on while there's no action taking place in the video. I rehearsed this before doing the actual live shots so that I could use as few words as possible but still get the point across. Thanks for looking.
