So the end of the video had me do the test. I am getting quite a bit of voltage from just touching the grease or whatever the thin layer of liquid is on the top of each battery. What is the best way to clean these things? Thank you im hoping that may be what is draining my batteries so quickly.
@DeepcyclebatterystoreSanDiego3 жыл бұрын
clean off excess conductive grease with a rag and make sure top of battery is also clean

Thanks for the video I learned alot. How did you convert AH to CCA on deep cycle batteries? Only car batteries indicate the CCA.
@aitkeninvestments934929 күн бұрын
Wondering the same myself
@adamboyar408414 күн бұрын
A Electronic Battery Load test will give you the CCA. Test when they are new, and compare that number when they get old.

Hello Jeff, My name is Pat good to meat you. I need to ask so questions, I am building a small solar system and don't know witch way to go and cost is a big factor. Do I go 6 or 12 volt, flooded lead or AGM. I will probable going between 300 & 400 watts, and using solar and alternator charging while driving. Can you offer some advise to the battery end . I live in Hemet Ca. and can make arrangements to come and pick them up. I hate to bother you but don't which way to go. Thank you for your time and trouble, Pat

Jeff do you have any tips for keeping my 48v (8v x 6) Golf cart batteries charged that sits unused for long periods of time?
@DeepcyclebatterystoreSanDiego5 жыл бұрын
Certain brands of 48 volt golf cart Chargers have a mode that will keep the batteries fully charged. First one that comes to mind is a brand called Quick Charge. Battery minder also makes a 48 volt tender

Interesting info regarding the 650A CCA rating for GC2 batteries. That's helpful, thank you. Any idea why GC2's do not have a CA or CCA rating on the label, or on the factory spec sheets? What I'm trying to determine is -- similar to the max. C/5 charge rate -- if there is a max *discharge* rate. We currently have 12 each CR-225 batteries for our whole-house UPS. They've lasted about 10 years, but it's time to replace them. I'm wondering if we can get away with 8 batteries. We are using 2 Trace DR2424 inverters. They pull 140A each at full load, but the load is generally just a couple hundred watts. The heaviest load is our well pump -- either 1/2 or 3/4 hp (I can't recall).
@aboutgregjohnson5 жыл бұрын
Good question about max discharge rate, because if allowing batteries to heat up is a problem during charging or discharge, then certainly an excessive load could create excessive heat - but I wonder if batteries have that indicated as a rating in their specifications. If not, why. Paper shredders indicate how many pages can be shredded simultaneously, and they are also rated for minutes to avoid overheating and damage. It would make sense to have batteries rated in a similar way.

finally a very smart man, i so agree with you, we work with current, voltage is exciting electrons, a great load test yes sir, a loose wire causes sparking, will cause pits on the terminals, i so agree with yo sir

Hi Jeff, I have an off grid home and am using Crown CR430 batteries. Will the Battery load tester work with that much amperage, if not what do model do you recommend?
@DeepcyclebatterystoreSanDiego10 ай бұрын
The load test is a snapshot to batteries health. Typically you would fully charge L16, load test with 200-300 amps and observe voltage not dropping below 2 volts. Back up results with battery hydrometer

How long after charging the battery should I wait before testing the electrolytes?
@bruceh37865 жыл бұрын
Nice clear explanation on checking out the battery. Thanks. Should the Crown 6V battery in the video be given an equalization charge since there is a noticeable difference in the specific gravity of the cells?
@DeepcyclebatterystoreSanDiego5 жыл бұрын
Yes, perform eq on day one and then approx every 45 days thereafter.

I’ve got six 8 V batteries in my golf cart. When I test them under load they’re showing between 6.6 and 6.7 V apiece. They’re about six years old. Is that an acceptable working number?

DO Golf Carts have a charging system?
@DeepcyclebatterystoreSanDiego Жыл бұрын
most carts come with an external or portable charger designed for the carts voltage. some carts come with an onboard charger located in or near the battery compartment

My hydrometer i just bought shows almost no movement filled with the electrolyte .but the load tester showed good battery, just got these batteries used. All fluid is to top of fill holes
@soylentgreen9492 Жыл бұрын
Charging your batteries at that level of fluid can cause it to overflow. The plates swell. There are indicators at the bottom sleeve inside to stop. The fluid rises to the top.

Quick question...I did a complete clean of my car battery and tipped all the electrolyte out and cleaned inside of battery with water and baking soda...now I come to realise I need to refill the battery with mixture of sulphuric acid and distilled water...can I use the hydrometer to test the mixture ratio before putting it in the battery...so for example mix some acid with water and test with hydrometer untill it reads in the green the 1200 range...and when it does it's the right ratio? And then fill the battery up with that ?
@DeepcyclebatterystoreSanDiego5 жыл бұрын
Good idea I've never tried that. Or find another battery that's toast and use the acid from it
@mthewolf10955 жыл бұрын
REMEMBER....Always add acid to water and NEVER water to acid, it can blow up in your face(not a fire explosion, but it can hurt you).

I have a question more than a comment I have a 1000 amp load tester that tests 6v, 12v, and 24v batteries can I use this for 8v golf cart batteries? Right now I am using the 12v scale but not sure what kind of voltage drop I should expect

this would require a discharge test that is not diy friendly, However an inexpensive discharge item can be purchased on amazon for about $50> Will Prowse has a video specifically on discharge test on batteries that is relevant to your need

i use 6-6volt duracell batteries in my cart. they are 2 years old this month. i charge them between uses and have added very little water only because it didn't need any added. why did my cart run fine for 36 holes for almost 18 months and the last 6 months decrease slowly whereas i barely make 18 holes...if i'm lucky. purchased them at Sam's Club. any suggestions. thank you
@DeepcyclebatterystoreSanDiego3 жыл бұрын
the best diagnosis tool for a flooded six full battery would be to purchase a battery hydrometer and check your cell specific gravity look for equal readings across all the cells

Can you bring batteries back to life my battery went dead over the winter and they wouldn't really old but they don't take charge is there a video how to bring them back Cajun land Church Point Louisiana

i have 2 6volt batterys, they read 6.1 volts. each, but i put them in my small camper and they die over night with some mild use............ i looked inside and dont see any liquid, the plates are moist
@brandonboughner19707 ай бұрын
Top it off with distilled water like he said (quarter inch above the plates is considered full). It will bring them back to life and be able to get a good charge.
@charliedougan14597 ай бұрын
That's a 12V load tester bud; and since golf cart batteries are not cold cranking AMPs like auto or marine batteries, the test is bogus. Look at needle in video, it is in the red zone (replace) to begin with. This test can actually damage deep cycle golf cart batteries
