You can send it to rockauto and they will rebuild it.. I had the same issue... after rebuilding the MAF same issues.. it turned out both grounds from the MAF connector need to be grounded to the body. I spliced wired leading from c & d and grounded them to the body - runs fine now. I literally tested all leads to ECU..

Question...what did you do to fix the problem with your MAF?...Last video I watched...I know its here somewhere,,,you had installed a new one and it didnt work...car started and idled fine unplugged. My gf is doing the exact same thing. real pain in the arse. will idle and not stall...but it doesnt have a consistent idle it wanders a bit. Any help you could give would be great. Thanks, Dave

Did you take the radiator fan off to get to the bolts on the bottom? It feels impossible
@TheZGarage2 жыл бұрын
It is a pretty tight fit. Removing the fan would make it more accessible but I don't think is absolutely necessary. Some extensions on a ratcheting wrench may help as well if you can get to it from underneath

Good video👍 question brother? Would the maf from your z 31 plug & play in a N/A VG30E from a 93 Hardbody 4x4 5 speed? If so would this be a sort of upgrade for the hardbody D21? Or would it hurt performance? I ask because something similar was done on a older Chevy blazer with a maf from a ls motor i believe. They just used a "translator module to interpret the readings so the blazer gained performance with out a tune. Thanks like the music keep up the good work. i know it's been a while since i have left a comment. ✌ thanks.

From what I can tell, they are different maf sensors. The z31 mafs are notorious for going bad so I'd say it'd probably be a downgrade. If you need a new one you should check rockauto.com

Typo u always have a fast response man i like that. I am trying to see what i can borrow from the 300zx n/a because i would imagine that the turbo computer let's say were to be swapped over would be too "hot" in Terms of performance and reliability?
@TheZGarage5 жыл бұрын
I'm not too sure what all can be swamped over other than strictly engine components like water pumps, alternator (from 90-92 maxima) and a few temp sensors. That's all I know of for sure

I can’t find a MAF for my 88 anywhere
@viewtifullyvon64655 жыл бұрын
Idk if you’ve gone through this but with my Z, I had a dead cell in my battery, causing it to do what your Z is doing. Misfire and sputter out. I already had a new alternator but that alternator was overcharging my crap battery and burned itself out. So maybe get a voltage test and check your alternator and battery again? Idk if you’ve done this already.
@TheZGarage5 жыл бұрын
I just replaced the battery about 8 months ago so I think it should be fine but if the MAF doesn't fix it I'll definitely check!

@@TheZGarage so I ended up getting a reman afm from AutoZone due to mine failing the spec-test. Got a lemon... it carbon fouled the plugs. Called Steve at 300zxpartsforyou. He sent me a nice clean one. Problem solved. Runs 100%

I'm not sure if it's the maf or not now. I've tried 3 mafs and they all make it run differently but it still misses

Replacing the maf harness helped the most but the problem turned out to be low fuel pressure
@Filthy_Goblin_443 жыл бұрын
can a bad MAF cause smoking and rich exhaust smell?
@TheZGarage3 жыл бұрын
It's possible. The easiest way to tell would be to unplug the maf and then see if it fixes the problem. When it's unplugged, it goes into a closed loop fueling table. If it fixes it then the maf needs to be replaced. If it doesn't fix it all the way, then it could be a combination. I would also check the CHTS if it hasn't been replaced recently
@Filthy_Goblin_443 жыл бұрын
@@TheZGarage thank you for responding! Love your vids. I'll try that next chance I get. I did already try to unplug the CHTS while it was running and all that happened was the idle shifted barely. It didn't stumble or anything. Does this indicate that I have a bad CHTS and/or harness?
@TheZGarage3 жыл бұрын
I don't think unplugging the CHTS will show if it's good or not like the maf. Also, I don't recommend unplugging things while the car is running. Run the car, turn it off, unplug, then turn it back on. If it's running, it's possible that it could give a very crazy signal to the ecu and cause weird things to happen. If you don't know the last time the CHTS was replaced, I would replace it whether it's the source of your problems or not. It's a crucial sensor for running properly and they are known to go bad over time.

The issue I'm having now is that when I initially start the car up and drive it is fine but after a while of driving in the car feels like it doesn't want to go past four or five RPM I was wondering if the maf could be the issue I just got the car I just noticed it had a fuel filter delete
@TheZGarage3 жыл бұрын
You definitely want a fuel filter. Since there's not one, you probably also want to take the injectors off and clean them out. If they're gummed up then they're not going to be able to spray the correct amount of fuel in and that lines up with you not being able to rev higher.
@Sasukebloom863 жыл бұрын
@@TheZGarage thanks so much mannnnn I'm get one today I'm going to also try to clean out the fuel rail I'm going to try to avoid pulling the intake or plenum and I'm going to try to get something in the line to clean it
@TheZGarage3 жыл бұрын
Pulling the upper plenum is going to be the easiest way to do it. Since it's been running without a filter, you really want to clean the injectors individually with a forward flush and backward flush. I have a video on cleaning injectors if you want to see how I did it. But good luck! I hope that solves your problems!
