Thanks for the demo, is there any chance you could share the composition of reagents and tablets shown in the video ? It would be very helpful. Thank you again

Thank you so much for sharing this video. Do you know, are the high/medium/low categories geared more towards growing vegetables? I grow mostly native flowers and shrubs and I don't want to over-amend or amend to the point where I make the environment more favorable for weeds than my native plants. I wonder if I should just make sure all of the categories are at least not trace and minimum low? Or may just make sure the N is not too high?

Thanks for the video. What's your opinion of electronic NPK sensors? Are they accurate?

Thank you so much for this video. You've convinced me to buy a kit to test the soil of my indoor "tomatoes" ;).

You're welcome! Testing with a field kit such as this is very easy and if nothing else gives peace of mind. It won't be as accurate or reliable as a soil test sent away to a lab but helps you to know if you are on the right track or not.

How dangerous are these chemicals and how should we dispose of the tiny quantities used in the test. This was a very informative vlog, thank you

Does the soil need to be strained before testing, is organic material allowed in the sample scoops? Like small roots, leaves, peat, bugs?
@prof.markvalen2 жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes, when taking a soil sample you should remove the organic layer on the surface and sample from a depth of 2 - 6 inches. You can randomly sample a few spots (up to 5) in a general area to get more soil and average out any anomalies. Then it's best to dry or dehydrate the soil and crush up any dirt clods so you can once again remove small bits of organic material such as roots or leaves. Now you are ready for testing!

When I did the nitrogen test it stayed clear what does that mean please help!! Thanks
@prof.markvalen2 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew, it either means you have very little soluble nitrogen in the soil or there was some error with the methods. One common mistake is that people use the wrong reagent. I'd try it again and if I got the same results then it's time to either amend your soil or fertilize your plants.

And when he says “.5 grams” at 3:57 he”s referring to dirt. Had to rewatch it 3 times to figure out when the actual soil came in to the equation…
