How to Thicken The Trunk in Bonsai🪴Japanese Maple Repot! 🍁
This is just one way to thicken a trunk in Bonsai! I'd say by far the most effective way is to plant it in the ground. Let me know your ways of improving Bonsai in the comments!

@@notionbonsai I'm growing a Juniper from a sapling that my daughter discovered growing on our property. Probably 8 or so years ago. Another sapling has started, also in our front yard.

Hello, I love your shorts. I was wondering if you had any recommendations on resources to ask questions and learn more about more specific bonsai online. Like for styling tips and other things like fertilizing, soil and pruning and styling? Also, if you had any interest in doing shorts helping others with what they could do with their trees? Like a “tree reviews” or “tree talks” series?

How come you choose bonsai medium instead of growing in more of a dirt then transplanting into the bonsai soil
@notionbonsai
@notionbonsai Жыл бұрын
Hey! Choosing the right soil mix for Bonsai is a crucial aspect of the art form, as it affects the health and growth of the tree. Bonsai soil is typically a well-draining, fast-draining mix that promotes healthy root growth and prevents waterlogging. By using bonsai soil from the beginning, the tree's roots can develop in an environment that promotes healthy growth and allows for optimal nutrient uptake. This can help the tree establish a strong foundation and thrive over the long term. That being said, the specific soil mix you use will depend on the species of tree and its individual needs. It's always a good idea to research the soil requirements of your particular bonsai tree to ensure that you are providing it with the best possible growing conditions.

Hello! I have a japanese maple bonsai and i thought that its very happy. But just yesterday, i found its leaves curled and dried. I will repot it now but use the same pot with new soil. My question is, did my bonsai die? 😢😢😢
@notionbonsai
@notionbonsai 2 ай бұрын
It's definitely concerning to see your Japanese maple bonsai's leaves curling and drying up. While it's difficult to determine without more information. It could be stressed due to environmental factors, watering issues, or root problems. Repotting with fresh soil could help if root rot or compacted soil is the issue. However, it's essential to inspect the roots carefully for signs of health and trim away any damaged or rotting roots before repotting. On the other hand, If all the roots look healthy - the leaves may have got sunburned on a hot day because they were in the sun for too long. So maybe just removing any dried up leaves and placing it in a shaded spot with partial sun may help it recover. Hope this helps!!

What do you use as fertiliser for the tree?
@notionbonsai
@notionbonsai Жыл бұрын
I don't like to advise on specific brands but all fertilisers will have an NPK value. 10:6:6 is a good ratio for spring. Dont fertilse right after repotting. Wait a few weeks for it to settle in or it could burn the roots!

@@notionbonsaiorganic fertiliser can be used immediately as it takes some time to break down to be taken to by the tree.

When do you know to fertilize the tree?
@iamaduckquack
@iamaduckquack 9 ай бұрын
Depends on the stage the tree is at in its development and what fertiliser you use. Trees growing and in development can have more frequent and heavier amounts of fert whereas trees in final stages or refinement typically want quite a bit less. For chemical fert you pretty much follow the instructions as its easy to over do those. Organic fert are applied every few weeks. They take some time to break down into the soil but they are slow/continuous release hence the longer time between applications.

Should I repot with it being may?
@notionbonsai
@notionbonsai Жыл бұрын
In general, May can be a suitable time for repotting bonsai trees, but it depends on the specific tree species and its growth cycle. Most deciduous trees are repotted in spring before they start actively growing, while evergreen trees are often repotted in late spring or early summer. It's important to consider the health of the tree and its current state before deciding to repot. If the tree is healthy and showing signs of vigorous growth, it may be a good time to repot. However, if the tree is weak or stressed, it's best to wait for a more suitable time, such as the next repotting season.
