Thanks for this. For years, I've tried to calm my mind by thinking of nothing. Now I just think in Norwegian because I don't know a single word of Norwegian.

Love your videos ! I learned 9 languages to varying degrees. I easily blend in anywhere, any culture because of it. Nothing feels outlandish. My accent changes according to the situation and person so counterparts assume I know the language better than I actually do. I also pick up cultures quite easily because of it. Just that skill landed me several jobs. Several thoughts come to mind as it relates to your video. People can do more than they think they do. I recall having a complete dream, like a movie, in a language that I understand and read at a rather basic level but do not speak. That tells me my brain recorded it all and I only need to activate it. A week or two in the right environment and i’ll probably sound like a native. I so agree with everything you say. Many new learners tend to translate and the key is to stop doing that from the get go. A friend really got stuck because of that : he assumed he just had to translate word for word and that the structure would be like in his mother tongue. I gave him a few examples of why that won’t work and he’s been an incredibly fast learner since. When I’m tired, words from different languages come to mind instead of the one i’m in. Such words and phrases are invariably of the ‘suelo’ kind. It tells me that my brain just drops a filter in the process when tired, confirming it does exist. Alongside, it helps to build on existing knowledge : many root words hail from Latin, Arabic, etc. It helps to take any magazine and underline words we think we recognize. It’s amazing how many words we already know without realizing. Children can learn up to 8 languages simultaneously, provided one language is linked to one person or one situation. I don’t see why adults would not be able to. Learning a language is making history and sociology come to life. Soo interesting and rewarding ! Please, keep the videos coming ! I’d love to be in your classes ! Do you have a link where we can download your textbooks ?

That's the right spirit. We can do way more than we think. It astonishes me when people say things like, 'you cant do anything in a month, or even a year for that matter!' It's like ... wut. You can find materials on langmatrix.com I really appreciate your positive, "yes-and" comment.

Tony, you’re a hidden gem in the world of language learning on KZbin. Care to elaborate on the idea that language learning is the first step to Buddhist enlightenment?

The solution is simple. As soon as possible, stop using your Native Language in the process of learning L2. Stop using translation dictionaries and use MONOLINGUAL dictionaries. I don't suggest you do that at A0, but it could be done at A2 or even A1 levels.
