If you dont like dogs and the drz there is something wrong with you. Im not saying its the best bike or the fastest but if you can really ride the dam thing you cant help but have fun on it and they can take a beating for years and many miles of abuse. I got 30k miles drzsm NOTHING but change the oil. 80 mph on hwy for hours at a time wheelie ever time I let the clutch out.Ride it hard off road . burnt 15 sets of tires plum up. Valves still in tolerance doesnt burn oil. I grin ever time I start it.

Impressive on a stock-ish DRZ...I'm a believer in clutching all wheelies, but I used to use the "slack and crack" method you're describing when I was a newer rider. Waiting for the compression and resulting rebound is key. Need to come do the school again and give this a try!

Love the tips. No one ever mentions how you need to hold the grips and use the arms. Would you be kind enough to explain the following: How should you hold on to the grips? Very tight grip? Very loose? In-between? Do you have a very tight grip when rolling on the throttle and then loosen when front wheel is the air? Or?? Also do you keep the elbows bent rolling on the throttle and when wheel in the air? Or lock out the elbows?? Help? :)
@socalsupermoto
@socalsupermoto 4 жыл бұрын
Good questions. I like to roll my hand forward on the grip, so that when it's in a wheelie it's in nuetral position instead of weird and down low. I like to do continues blips of the throttle, medium grip. That's how i feel the most comfortable

Like he said just practice, and being relaxed and before you know it you will be shifting through the gears sitting down and standing up doing wheelies… Then next thing you know you will be riding one up the launch of a jump. Just keep on riding and practicing!..!

@socalsupermoto

Honestly if you want to back it in, don't try. Ride faster, brake later, turn in harder, and you will automatically back it in. Riders that try to back it in are slowing themselves down.

Neggo what gearing do you have? Powering up in 4th sounds nice lol. I probably could truth be told, my back brakes have been screwed for a year tho so I’m scared to even try to get up in 4th due to lack of engine braking lol

@@matt3122 slightly forward, leaves your arm more nuetral and balanced when using the throttle. If you think doing third gear wheelies on a track in full gear is wreckless you shouldn't be riding motorcycles. A bit hyberbolic don't ya think?

Warning: DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS VIDEO. You do not want to learn wheelies in 3rd gear. Do yourself a favor and learn to wheelie in 1st gear. A little common sense will tell you if you hit the ground from looping you're better off going slow. Right?? Don't figure that out the hard way, please.
@Torgon8
@Torgon8 4 жыл бұрын
1st is a bit too touchy. I've always heard the place to start is in 2nd around 20-25 and dump the clutch. That being said, this video is specifically on how to power wheelie in third..
@matt3122
@matt3122 4 жыл бұрын
Nathan Schaefer 1st has more engine breaking as well which will save you if your breaking is not quick enough. Your throttle control should be good enough to wheelie in 1st otherwise your asking for trouble.
@socalsupermoto
@socalsupermoto 4 жыл бұрын
@@matt3122 There is nothing in this video that says "do not do wheelies in first or second gear". This is how I do them, folks ask me all the time so I put the vid together. I've watched a thousand crashes from riders turning in too early. and ZERO from third gear loops. Seriously.

As a new rider I thought this. How ever first starting slow actually feels more scary. Ide say get in second, roll just fast enough for it to engage and not bog, the slowly learn clutch ups. Good thing I had friends that made me try 2nd
