Dam bro, I have been trying to do this on my own for months, whenever I drive alone… I been a metal vocalist for the last 20 years or so and have pretty good control over every type of vocal fry, deep growls, and some high screams. I just could not get throat singing by listening and trying to mimic it. After just 9 min of this video I got the sub tone to turn on and even the higher one. I finally have something I can practice to add throat singing to my bag of tricks. Thanks my man! I’m very grateful for this video!!

Thank you Alex for these videos, they’ve been immensely helpful. Been learning the different styles for a year now, (this one I struggle with most) and have had to do it mostly on my own. I can’t stand the overly esoteric approach many have to Throatsinging, so your grounded, professional approach is very helpful, as well as your detailed descriptions and little stepping stones. Have rarely heard anyone describe what your voice does so well, usually it’s stuff like “and then just feel your voice connect to the sky and...”, that’s when I usually close the video.
@Noctarilfate4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a "professional approach", I just think he's doing a better job of actually explaining the technique.
@Glenfuch4 жыл бұрын
Good observation about the flakier descriptions, beautiful they may be, but they remain only words. But those words of flake might be the ones that work for some! There is no right or wrong in the practice; well, unless you consider pain "wrong" and comfort "right." But those states too are subjective.
@BoarhideGaming4 жыл бұрын
Alex Glenfield Absolutely, which is why I appreciate your work here even more. It’s a bit more grounded than most other teachers of the techniques, and caters to a different audience. Ideally, we’d all look at all sources (there aren’t many, after all), but I must say this one is more helpful than others, for me. So thanks.

ironically, if you know how to kargyraa, you can also do false cord death metal growls. the same structure is response for both techniques i actually learned death growls first, THEN learned kargyraa a kargyraa is just a more controlled death growl and a death growl is just a more rough, haphazard flapping of a kargyraa
@n0nms6043 жыл бұрын
I learned Kargyraa 1st and am starting to learn how to use it for growls. really cool tbh
@Lenyberry3 жыл бұрын
...and if you already know how to do false cord death metal growls, picking up basic kargyraa comes pretty easy! I was expecting a steeper learning curve but I'm not gonna complain about having already done half the hard part!
@wanderershideout3 жыл бұрын
You can also apply the same technique to fry & get subharmonics technique. Which many Bass vocalists use for going ultra low.
@XwoooahX2 жыл бұрын
Thats why I learned kargyraa first (to do death metal vocals) and it was super helpful for death growls because I have a ton of control over the false cords now and am able to alter my voice to sound like many different vocalists. I don't think that would be possible without throat singing to get my false cords moving easier and allow for me to have more control over them. A lot of tutorials just have you sigh and bark and stuff without ever learning to activate and isolate the false cords like throat singing does so I think a lot of people just do breathy screams and have their false cords flap in the wind instead of being able to sing through them.
@Sergio-nb4hj2 жыл бұрын

For Kargyraa, I can vibrate my false vocal folds easily for weeks now but it definitely doesn’t sound great. I don’t get why. @@pubbahubbabba Thank you. I’m practicing for about 1 year now and I still don’t understand what I’m doing. When I watch some videos of Mongolian woman singing « Kaargyra » it sounds like when someone imitates a motorbike engine, or when you juste wake up and say « mmmmh ». According to my phone, this create a sound 1 octave below my natural voice. I can easily switch it on and off while speaking or singing. But... I also watched a video of an italian woman « throat singing » and it was very deeper, and extremely sounding like « Kargyraa » men singing. When I try it, it is more difficult, It makes me cough, and I have to cough to find the right sensation. I have to place my throat in a different way to get that sound. But this is called Kargyraa too and what you are doing right here. So my question is, what’s the difference between the first throat singing I described and the second ? Is there a name for that first one ? Or is it naturally how men sings ? Why is it called Kargyraa on some women video ? Because it is really not the same thing. I don’t know if you can help. Thanks !

Funny you should say that, I was only thinking the same... I’ve been singing deep death metal growls for years and once I finally got the feel for this throat singing, it felt very familiar... my theory is that this throat singing is the vocals cords and false cords oscillating in harmony, whereas death metal growls is mostly the false cords oscillating inharminically, with a lot more energy.

I don't know if I'm doing it right or if I'm making a low gurgling sound with spit, either way when I think I get it, it feels like that fuz when you open a pop, how it little bits of fuz shoot up, maybe It's vibrations causing that? @teklorsgaming14534 жыл бұрын
If you strain your voice too much it will give you a sore throat. He explains "finding the least resistance voice" in either the khoomei video or this one...can't remember. But the least resistance voice/sound is what you want, it'll strain your vocals the least. I've been learning throat singing for a while now and still get a sore/irritated throat from Kargyraa when I go for a long time or try to push out really extreme notes too much...drink TONS of water or not too hot tea with lemon, honey and or ginger it'll help soothe your voice and let you practice longer. Frequent breaks can help too in the beginning....don't over do it. Hope this helps :)
@DeathScorpi03 жыл бұрын
Do you recommend doing this if you have no singing training/experience whatsoever ?
@Tocinos3 жыл бұрын
If you can sing a straight note with little to no shakiness then you're halfway there. Download an app that displays the note you're singing, and simply familiarize yourself with the minor pentatonic scale (5 notes blues scale) Practicing scales and staying in pitch will help you not hurt your throat, and inevitably you will be able to sing lower. And no need to over-do it, if there's pain then a break is what's needed. It's just like building biceps. I'll even notice sometimes after weeks of stopping that I have improved by simply taking a break. Also not getting lightheaded helps, and will improve over time
@RathwulvenBushcraft2 жыл бұрын
Maybe someone here can help me - I am getting really frustrated, since weeks I am practicing daily and I cannot even get the right vibrations done. I really want to learn this skill.
@XwoooahX2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it absolutely sucks learning how to do it. I spent a year trying to get it before I finally could do it (sometimes attempting for a couple hours a day). Now its super easy but it takes a long time to get to that point. The thing about the false cords not moving at first was absolutely true for me and I had to use a lot of force at first to "break them in". (Basically I had to use a lot of constriction and a forceful cough which vibrated my false cords but irritated my throat). Now its easy with no irritation and I can do this very delicately or medium or hard, control of it takes a lot of time and practice.
