Just started working on my forehand drives after 25 years of disc golf. So many different styles. Always good to get some additional tips and tricks. Thanks BigJerm & Dark Horse. Hopefully, we will see you guys at Worlds here in UT. Not sure you will read this but also would like to bring your attention to the Worlds oldest PDGA player from my hometown, Santa Maria, CA. Check out Don Shinn. He will be turning 100 years old in October. He is planning to play in the Senior PDGA Tournament in Pasadena, CA. He played in it last year. I had the pleasure of playin with him while I was back home this past summer. He is out every morning at 8 throwing 27 holes at Waller Park or Preisker Park. Crazy thing is he only throws a Mamba. Great guy. Tried reachin out to Innova about it but got no where. I believe now a Innova Rep is keeping an eye on him to make sure he will be ready for the Senior PDGA tournament. There is discussion of holding a tournament for his Birthday in October. Hoping to get some Pros out to play since it is not to often you get to play with a 100 year old. Love to see you guys on the tee pad with Don.

I would love to see Jerm talk about the flick/release point. I feel myself and others have a tendency to flick late or have an awkward quirk where I can flick drivers clean, but mids and putters are a lot tougher to flick and release clean without wobble. Great video though. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
@bulldawgirwin8384
@bulldawgirwin8384 4 жыл бұрын
For wobble, the trick I learned with mids/putters is keeping my palm facing up on the release, and more wrist action. I found if I put too much "arm" in to it, I would get wobble. It's a shot I feel I'm starting to get the hang of, and those were the 2 things that made a difference for me.
@chrispreperato5562
@chrispreperato5562 4 жыл бұрын
@@bulldawgirwin8384 Yeah, and he touched on that in talking about his follow through. A lot of people get away with a snappier forehand release, myself included, because they are throwing an OS fairway driver and hides the flaw. Then I bust out a putter or mid-ranger for a close approach and I flip the thing over.

Idk if you still need help with this, but as a beginner start with understable discs because beginners usually don't have as much power and they will fly straighter and further. Once they start turning right on you, transition from understable to more stable and overstable discs because you have enough power to get them flying straight or even turn them over a little bit. Hopefully this helps!

focus on the way it releases off your hand. Don’t try to just snap thru it. Take a putter outside your house and throw it super short away from you, like around 75 ft or something like that, just throw it flat and let your fingers spin the disc. Work with that until you can put pop on the disc. Honestly it’s just going slow with it and getting reps. You have to unlearn other throwing motions (from other sports.) and learn how the disc is to release off of the hand. Eventually with power the disc is poping off and ripping out of the hand but that is a disc golf throw whereas if you try to throw it hard with bad mechanics it won’t release perfectly. Slow is good for this

I have been throwing sidearm since '69, '70. My little brother actually started before me and was better at it. I did not play golf until '78, BC player. Playing frisbee since '66. Some frisbee games r history. One is guts. You can never really be that good at guts unless you can side arm, which I managed to impress others over the years, opponents suffering bleeding, broken fingernails trying to catch my tosses. For me the sidearm started with skipping rocks on the water, tossing disks, paint can lids, shingles. Learning to toss the frisbee was different, difficult and did not come that easy as it did to my little brother and you actually had to re-learn with the frisbee golf discs which screwed up going back playing catch sidearm. I never met Ed but I would imagine that like all disc golf enthusiasts he was impressed with my little brothers sidearm prowess. All these years I am just amazed, however, that the forehand is just not across the board. The feel of the disc is important, not the same on all discs, especially on the release. Keep tape in ur bag starting out for ur fingers. You will also wear out the toe of one shoe, right shoes are important. If ur going to hustle people, u need to learn how to throw both ways both arms.

Dude!! BigJerm used to play my home course all the time… hornets nest in Charlotte.. I bought some disc craft out his trunk a few times lol.. glow buzz and a few nukes.. traded him a few too… had a star destroyer that was so old you couldn’t read anything on it anymore.. it was just brownish white.. but it was soooo reliable dude!! My whole bag got stolen though.. so all my discs that I collected since middle school were taken.. around 25 discs that I LOVED!!! That was years ago and I’m just now getting back into it. That was devastating dude.

I wish i had videos like this when i was learning 10 years ago. awesome stuff Jerm. ill always know you as the best forehand in the game ever since i saw that disc fly dead straight and just hold on hole 2 in the 2012 augusta classic(kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZvQdWmti9VphNk). i was convinced you were the best from then on. never before that had i seen a forehand go so far and so straight. usually they always hyzered hard and were only utility shots. this changed everything for me when i saw it and i realized that a FH has the potential to do exactly what a backhand does, but in the opposite direction. now i can hyzerflip something as flippy as a sidewinder if needed with no problem thanks to big jerm opening up my mind to Fh hyzerflips in 2012.

Jerm has such a nice forehand. I would say he has the best forehand in the pro scene today. maybe not in terms of distance, but the smoothness and accuracy of his forehand is so good.

Thank you for this video! I had a really hard time getting the forehand technique to work but this video made me realise I was holding the disc wrong in the first place 😂 Big thumbs up! ❤ 👍🏼👍🏼 ❤️

Hey I'm a forehand all the way player, I like the two finger its more accurate. But the power grip forehand is insane for distance.

5:21 Golfers elbow in this case! Im a newbie, started 3 weeks ago. Got Tennis elbow from throwing backhands a lot, but now found that my forehand is way better than my backhand actually!

I’m a 70 yr old that’s been playing for 5 mo. Have some arthritis in my throwing shoulder but I believe I can still try forehand throw. My question is is there a stretching exercise for that shoulder? I normally throw backhand. Also how does a person develop accuracy?

Aviar x3 is the best approach disc in the game. Goes perfectly straight but you can also shape it to do whatever you like. I throw it from the tee often.

Just came back to this from the Jerm vs Uli practice round where Jerm said that the run up is really just him making it look pretty for the camera and he can do the same thing from a standstill with regards to a forehand. Might just be him making a joke but i really do encourage people to work on standstill flicks for forehand shots.

Nice! Keep slinging Bro!!!!! A little critique however... I love it when you’re in the video the whole time talking and interacting with your guest. This one seems a little like you inserted a Big Jerm tutorial inside your intro and closing. You’ve got a personality that really engages viewers so I would like to see more interaction (like you do with Paul).

Question: Is it better to have the palm of your hand continuously facing upward (even after the release) or to let it fold over? I saw in the slow-mo clip that Jeremy's hand folds over and was curious.
