This 51 yr old, recovering from elbow injury, went out to throw tonight, the goal was to work on throwing nose down, not nose up. Next thing you know I was throwing mid ranges dead flat and they were going as far as fairways usually go. Then swapped discs and threw fairways as far as drivers. Thanks for the great tip!

I was swiveling my wrist just like you pointed out here, having all the related problems associated with that. In one video, you solved one of the biggest problems with my backhand. Two months later, I'm throwing consistently farther, flatter, and more on my line than ever. Low ceiling shots don't scare me any more. I'm getting distance with mids and fairways that I've never had before. Even better, now I understand how to throw that controlled nose up stall shot when needed. All my friends have noticed, and they are learning too. Thank you!!!

Just started really learning backhand last year and I've been struggling to find the right technique. I went out to the field yesterday with these tips in mind. I followed your advice and threw an anyhyzer into the ground and it just kinda clicked for me. It gave me the perspective of doing the angle to the extreme which I never really did. I could feel how I would need to correct to throw flat and not nose up like id been struggling with. Thank you Scott! I've watched a ton of videos trying to figure what im doing wrong and this one seriously helped me more than any other video!
@emailofbert2 жыл бұрын
Fun physiology terminology: the nose-up "swivel" he's talking about is called wrist pronation, the opposite of which is supination. You want your wrist to be neutral between the two (or maybe even a smidge supinated..?) - avoid pronating.
@bretbowman2007 Жыл бұрын
I forgot I'd watched this video and laughed out loud when Scott explained the drill makes you throw cut rollers hard as hell, because that's what I've been doing some of the time since discovering pretty consistent snap most of the time. The problem almost always comes down to a wavy or otherwise not level and smooth pull through at the height of the power pocket (noting that pull through is a whirling shoulder yanking the arm forward, not really a pull). Throwing putters perfectly straight and flat with tons of spin way farther than without snap. I can finally appreciate why pros use putters as drivers so often. And Scott: your forehand shot near the end of OTB Skins #59 made me cry it was so brilliant, like it left a trail the way a comet does. Love you, brother.
@markhumphrey88942 жыл бұрын
8:32. Thats it!!! Why did it take 7 yrs to learn this? Shocked at how well I just played. What a joy seeing the disc actually fly. When I threw flat the disc really flew as the numbers state. The under stable discs like Shryke and Leopard really turned over. I'll have to start hyzer flipping them to go straight. Suddenly I'm not afraid of over stable discs like champ T Bird. I fully understand how the whip works by the wrist unhinging properly. The pronating wrist stops that. You can actually feel the whip. Insane Scott. Can't thank you enough. I thought at 58yo I'd never get it. Now I've got it!!!.

It never ceases to amaze me the parallels between golf and disc golf. Around the 3 50 mark you mention the swiveling of the lead arms wrist. Man o man is that the swing killer in both. AND most often time causes fifty other things to go south as well. And once again is so simple to fix but hard to do. Great video, thank you immediately fixed my banana slice and garnered about 60 ft more off the tees

Thank you, Scott! I remember that one day my backhands were going further than usual. The next day at practice my backhand throws were shorter again, they went back to my standard distances. I tried to figure out why I threw so much better the previous day. And the only difference I could figure out I was making was the fact that I started that previous day training with a relatively long backhand roller throw practice. I therefore guessed that for some reason practicing rollers improved my backhand form. But I could not tell why. And now, after watching your explanation I finally understand why. Those roller throws forced my wrist to move more efficiently and then my muscle memory carried it out to the backhand practice that fallowed. Thanks!

This is one thing I love about Disc Golf. There is no tried or true form yet. The pros figured it out, yet each one does it a bit different. Because of that, you can watch 100's of videos on how to throw a backhand and yet, new videos coming out today will still contain new information. Even the pros are still learning. The coaches are still learning. Everybody is still learning, yet we are all learning together. In 50-100 years, there probably will be a standard form that is thought.
