Big fan of Aaron Nola. His sinker, when on, is incredible. Front door front hip sinker to lefties and back door sinkers to righties. Gets a ton of strikes/strikeouts looking.

Does a one seam grip/spin actually effect SSW as compared to a 2 seam grip/spin. I’m confused on whether to throw a one seam or not.

What do you guys mean by if you cut the ball you are better suited for a sinker, I'm trying to develop one but I now am confused wether to get on the inside of the ball like a change or cut the ball like a slider

Are there ideal spin direction ranges that make good candidates for the SI? Have seen somewhere before (and see it in person sometimes) where that 85% spin efficiency might work best when paired with a 1:30ish/10:30ish RHP/LHP spin direction. Or have you guys found that it doesn't really matter too much?

It's difficult to answer your question without additional context to take into account, however to put it simply if you have a lower slot it will be easier to create depth. The lower the spin direction is, the better the individual profile will look!

@@drivelinebaseball Sorry, I meant to say for the *SSW* SI specifically (re: spin direction range) where that effect would come into play.

In college I was a sinker sweeper change guy with maybe 2% 4 seam. I’ve COMPLETELY lost the feel and this makes me think it’s a thumb positioning thing. Cheers

why do you guys call it cut and not tail or run when the ball runs armside?

They are using the term “cut” to explain why the pitcher getting around the ball and adding gyro spin to it. It does get confusing, but when they talk about movement, they say gloveside or armside. Not cut or run.
