I jave an oche tape. But one question keeps coming back to me. What if you don't pull it out perfectly 90 degrees from the flat plane of the board? Then it won't be central once you get to the oche. Also, we're told looking down to see where you place your feet before looking up and throwing is bad practice too, as you're taking your focus away from the board. I'm sure there's gotta be a system here that overcomes these two obvious problems.

As long as the wire is tight and the label at the end of the oche mate is level with the ground your good. And as fair as not look at the ground is concerned their is a trick around this. @@Straightdarts this works wonders for me. I'm a right-handed player with a left eye dominants. So I stand at the left of the oche(left side of the middle point of the oche). When I put out my right arm as straight as I possibly can and close my right eye. Then I can see with my dominant left eye. That my arm is spot on the 20s on the board. Great point, I feel this is best for doubles as well as it make the distance between doubles each side of the board the same e.g Double 18 is the same distance as Double 12 and so the same amount of power is required. Also if you make it to part 13 of How to play darts (switching) I do cover the best way to keep the throw as like for like as possible when going for non central targets :)

@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts 3 жыл бұрын
First thing to do is make sure your not tightening your grip under pressure. 😀 it's a really common problem and causes you to choke the dart, rather than having a smooth release. :) Also have you tried pushing the darts to the target rather than throwing? Some players iv worked with find this easier and more consistent under pressure 😀

Hi , I am new to darts and started playing 2 weeks ago. I am very addicted to it and played like 4 hours a day. My Shoulder started to hurt so badly that now , after playing for 15 mins , I can barely lift my arm up. Is this normal for new players ? Do I just need to take a week off to let it rest ? Or could it be bad posture / stance ?
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts 2 жыл бұрын
Your shoulder should never hurt. You should only be using the elbow, wrist and fingers to throw. Keep everything else still and stay as flexed and lose as possible. :) It is most lightly caused by raising your elbow to much when you follow though. Try and place your elbow at a height so you can aim over the top of the flight, draw back and follow throughout with the elbow raising as little as possible. :)

I'm new to darts. Would you say you have good shoulder flexibility? I, for the life of me, cannot get my forearm, elbow and hand inline Like you do. So as I pull the dart back, my arm naturally has an angle on it. So my hand is inside of my elbow. If that makes sense. If I try and keep my elbow, forearm and hand inline, it puts huge pressure on my shoulder. I've tried standing side on and front on. Nothing helps. Are there any dart professionals that have the angle in their arms like I mentioned? So i could see how they go about it. Quite deflating, not being able to get everything lined up.

When I release and follow through, I can often see the arm finish left or right off the middle line before I straighten it up. It's almost like the straight part is happening too late and I invariably pull and drag darts all over the place. I try my best to keep it all straight but it's not unusual for me to hit 18s, sometimes 4s, as I have a right and low tendency but also 12s and 9s. I'm hoping I'm slowly teaching my brain to keep the arm straight but it's incredibly difficult and often feels out of my control despite my best intentions. I'll try this heel of the foot idea and see what happens - thanks for the video.

@@decompozingdeath1760 Well mentally I feel more confident as I know I'm central etc. but in terms of actual improvement... not a huge amount in about 180 hours of practice since this comment, though I was forced into a stance change due to injury (foot flat to the oche vs toe touching perpendicular). I'm still averaging pretty much the same - 35ish at the moment - and I'm still hitting far too many 18s, 1s and 5s. Currently, I'm managing to hit the 20 segment 35% of the time when aiming for the T20. That's pretty much the same as what it's ever been bar 1 48% at the start of September during a period of higher amounts of practice - between 2 and 4 hours a day instead of my average 94 minutes. When 53% of your darts are going into the 5s and 1s... that's just a sorry state of affairs given I've practiced well over 600 hours at this point. All in all, I'm just frustrated really. I feel like I'm still where I started with playing darts which is depressing and almost embarrassing to be honest.

@Straightdarts

If right handed, standing to the left of the oche can cause less contact between your arm and you body (depending on alignment). This is why most right handed plays tend to sick with the right of the oche. Everyone is different but when learning, the center is good for spaceial awareness and staying straight.
@justinpg3414
@justinpg3414 Жыл бұрын
@@Straightdarts Can you clarify this please? Are you saying most right handed pros don’t stand the way you are instructing (ball of foot right side of oche and rest of foot in left side of oche) and if so, I’m also unclear of the reason explained…less contact? Thanks man, not trying to be difficult, I’m having some trouble with my alignment as a righty in the center. Excellent videos, big fan of your channel
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts Жыл бұрын
@Justin PG When you start learning, I'd try to stand in the centre, but you can stand anywhere as long as you have good alignment. The reason I'd try and stand in the centre is because it's easiest play for most of find alignment, and it keeps the targets on the board semetrical, e.g the D18 in the same distance as D12. This makes learning spacical awareness easier. Another benefit to being central when you start is accessibility in some venues. When you're playing in pubs and clubs, sometimes you can stand on the left or right due to walls and tables, etc. If you are playing more competitive venues, the oche is normally adequate. When you can't keep straight, being central helps most players, but as you improve, being central makes less difference. I prefer to keep to the middle. The contact I was referring to is the contact between your arm and chest.
