As a gutiar player of 6 years wbos beens studying music theory, i don't find harmonica very difficult however i just got one. 16 years old just watched your beginner lesson at 1 am because in 3 hours im leaving to Tennessee and gotta learn some licks im sure my family will love hearing me practice on the 12 hour drive

I had to think about it. I believe I usually use throat vibrato. I'm going to work on the diaphragm vibrato and see what I like best.

I use sometimes a fast tongue block on single notes works well on blow notes not so much on draw ones. Nice lesson Adam thanks !

I find jaw movement vibrato/tremelo much more difficult to maintain a steady pulse rate than throat, for some reason. I think these things also become more challenging at the low end of lower harps like perhaps a G or particularly something in the low harps. One other challenge I find is when playing amplified. The steadiness is then quickly destroyed by jaw or hand movement, probably because of having to control more than just the harp. Any specific tips for amplified vibrato?

The best starting model is a Hohner Special 20 Harmonica in the key of C. Adam's videos are some of the best instruction you can find. Also as a flute player you will find that you can play with a larger variety of genres. Good luck!

I am thinking about starting with harmonica playing to improve my musical understanding, ear training and as a therapy for myself. However, as an actor/singer that is a baritone I wonder if I should choose a harmonica in a lower key so to mimic the octaves and keys I sing in, act in and so on... I like to find an instrument that I can sing to... I did a test with a key app, the Bandmate chromatic tuner, to see what key I end up in when I find my comfortable range while singing and what tone I land in when making a tone with a natural breath and I land in Bb all the time... Is it then a smart idea to choose a harmonica in Bb? and if I wanna have one to compliment my singing training, ear training should I consider a chromatic harmonica then in Bb? or should I just take a C harmonica? I know too little about harmonicas and musical theory.. but had this idea when I started listening to all kinds of harmonicas.. I sing on intuition and memory but am starting to learn notes now... thanks for a rally nice channel, will follow!

When I first started posting to KZbin back in 2007, on my other channel, I used a B-flat harp for almost all my videos. It's a great key and I've got no problem with a beginner using it. You should NOT start on a chromatic. It requires an entirely different approach. You can't play chords of the standard "chugging" variety, and you can't bend notes. It's a whole different deal. Just get a good diatonic in B-flat, and track down my early (2007-2008) videos on my other channel. www.youtube.com/@Modernbluesharmonica

I think I usually use my tongue on blow notes and my jaw on draw notes... I'll try to pay more attention and see what else I'm doing.
