Looks like a fairly easy rig to set up. Gonna have to try this next time I head to the water. Thanks for posting.

So just a suggestion if you prefer the Palomar knot all the way up is to tie the hook and swivel onto each other first then to the main line. I personally Snell my hooks but that palomar knot is darn near the best knot ever for any type of hard wear connection. I use it a lot. That and the fishermen's knit but with an extra loop through the eye

Tie the palomar knot to the bottom swivel before tying the hook on. The palomar knot is the only knot I ever tie.

Do you recommend a 2in float right above the hook so the bait is off the ground

I personally only find it necessary for the leader line to be 10 lbs lighter than the mainline. I use a 50 lb braid mainline and a 40 lb Monofilament leader line and that's all I find I need for any fish I go fishing for personally.

I’m sure that works. I don’t believe there’s a one size fits all setup. I’ve seen guys with heavier leaders than main line, which baffles me, but if you’re catching fish…

@@ShowMetheHawgs oh I don't believe there's a one-size-fits-all either I'm just saying I personally don't find it necessary to go any higher than 50 lb test as long as a person knows how to use their drag properly. I mean technically you could get away with just a 30 lb test line and a heavy leader for pretty much any fish on the planet. As a matter of fact the biggest catfish in the world was an over 600-lb Chinese species of catfish which was caught on just 30 lb test monofilament. And all that fisherman did was use his drag properly to prevent the line from breaking. A general rule of thumb is you only want your drag set at 20% of your mainlines lb test Which may not sound like much. But it's actually all you really need to prevent your line from breaking and still reel the fish in.

what size bead hook and weight bro ?
@ShowMetheHawgs
@ShowMetheHawgs 6 ай бұрын
Hook size will depend on what you’re after. For big fish, I go 8/0 up to 12/0. For smaller fish, I use 4/0. Weight size depends on where I’m fishing and my rod. If I’m using my medium spinning rods in lakes, I’ll use 1/2 to 1oz, but if I’m using my bigger rods, I use 3oz. If I’m fishing on rivers with a lot of current, I’ll use whatever weight will hold the bait on the bottom.

I personally use a heavier leader than main line i use 40lb monofilament main line and a 80lb monofilament leader line and i don’t use sinker slides or no roll sinkers i use a three way crane swivel with a snap that I attach a weight to it dont slide and keeps your leader length what you want it to be

Hey whatever work for you. I like to get my weight back at a minimum so I’ll make the leader weaker. That stuff ain’t cheap lol
@WeekendWarrioroutdoors16
@WeekendWarrioroutdoors16 11 ай бұрын
@@ShowMetheHawgs yeah it aint cheap but im gonna start making my own sinkers and plus I usually figure out a way to get it on snag by positioning, my boat, the opposite side of where it got snagged and I usually get it back I like that have your leader because when you’re flathead fishing, you have to fish some of the heaviest cover like timber and stuff and I want it to be strong just in case have to pull a flat head all that are blue and just for abrasion resistance

What bait for catfish?
@ShowMetheHawgs
@ShowMetheHawgs 10 ай бұрын
There a ton of baits you can use. Here’s several I use. Nightcrawlers, live and cut bluegill, shad, skipjack and other baitfish, chicken breast, chicken liver, hotdogs, shrimp. If you’re going after blue cats, I’d use live or cut bluegill, large shad and skipjack. If flathead, I prefer live bluegill but flathead will eat cut bait as long as it’s fresh. Channel cats will eat all of the above.

@ShowMetheHawgs
@ShowMetheHawgs Жыл бұрын
Nope. Depends on what I’m after. Big cats I want that thick line. Smaller channel cats I’ll use 10-20lb test and bass 6-12lb test.
