Great video with a totally different approach to the entire rig. Crazy to see how differently everyone does this! Aside from using different knots for the connections, I sway away from leaving a loop on the end at the hook just because it gives a little extra play to fish and when you’re working with fish that move a lot quicker it just gives them a way to put more strain on the line. All in all a great video though.

Great set up for trout using salmon eggs... trout are notorious for being easily spooked and if they feel any tension they spit it out.. this allows them to pick it up, line slides through the weight and the trout sets themselves..

Thanks a million for watching and leaving some great feedback. It's definitely one of the original ways to tie a rig that keeps the sinker away from your terminal tackle. It's got many different names, I used Carolina Rig, because that's the most common name for it. Down here in South Florida, it's also know as a "Fish Finder Rig". Thanks again for your support of the channel. I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing If you shorten up the leader to about 6"-10" and use a 1/2-3/4 ounce sinker it's a great rig for sheepshead along side bridge pillings even in a strong current . If you put a bead and an adjustable float above it, it is a great trout rig.

Hello Heath. I enjoy all your videos. Thank you. Question? I am having a problem with crabs eating all my bait. I am using traditional high/low and pompano rigs. Where I fish, the angle of the line from the tip of my rod to the surface of the water is not steep enough to suspend the bait vertically to keep it off the bottom, which is why the crabs are eating my bait which is usually shrimp or small chunks of croakers, etc. Any suggestions or remedies? Thank you.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Жыл бұрын
You can try using a bobber or popping cork to give your hi-lo rig a more vertical presentation. This might decrease your hook up ratio slightly, but it'll keep your baits off the bottom

Great video and looks easy enough! I was surf fishing today in NJ with ENE winds around 20mph, and the ocean was angry. Is there any reason why I couldn't use a 4, 5, or 6oz pyramid sinker on this rig? I know the Carolina rig traditionally uses egg sinkers, but I don't think they'll work for me in these conditions. My 4oz pyramid barely (sometime) held today. Thanks!

Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. The Carolina Rig also know as the Fish Finder Rig is not a cast and retrieve tool.
