How to tie a Cat's Whisker Cormorant (Great top dropper pattern)

Wing: Comp Candy (Lunar White)

If you have fished for any length of time you will know the Cats Whisker and the Cormorant fly patterns, both in their own right super effective of UK Stillwaters. So in this video I show how to combine the two patterns to make a very effective mini lure.
This works well as a top dropper fished with a team of flies. I use this as an attractor pattern which often brings fish to your cast for a look. If you fish drabber nymphs in behind you will be surprised at how many fish will turn and take the drab flies in behind. Thats if they don't smash this pattern at the first time of asking, hang on the takes can be savage.

It's not tied as a minnow pattern but as a general lure pattern. I can see it being taken as a small fry pattern though early season.

Thanks for another interesting fly. I’ll bet this would work in a saltwater version for mackerel as well. I’ve never seen a pattern using split jungle cock eyes before. Is there a reason other than saving material?

If you use a cheap cape like mine the feathers are often slit anyway, I just help it along. I think maybe in a bigger size it would be great for Mackerel.

A hair winged cormorant will work on mackerel. Even down to a size 12. About an inch long especially if some flash/crystal is in or under the wing. A single fly on a six pound leader at dawn or dusk can be as close to a cold water bonefish as you could get in the UK. Sandeels or garfish are also a possible bonus catch.
