How to tie a D loop - Compound Bow Setup

kind of curious if it is possible to put a d loop on a recurve and shoot with a release aid like on a compound

You say "set it at Zero" but don't say how you arrive at this point! Not very good if you're a novice trying to set up a new bow! And what if you've never had a recurve?
