In this video I show you how I tie a Double Jig Rig setup for crappie fishing. My method is a bit different than others I've seen, as I use a unique and easy cinch knot on the bottom jig, and tie the top jig with a loop knot with a small loop. I explain why I use each knot in the video.
I also explain why it's important to use two different jig weights, and how those need to be tied on your fishing line.
In addition, I show you how to tie a Palomar knot on the bottom jig, and explain what makes it a strong knot.
Any questions? Please comment below and I'll be happy to help! Thank you very much for watching. Please click the like button if you enjoyed the video, and please consider subscribing. Both are free, and both really help support the channel!

Probably the best tutorial on tying a double jig rig. I love the loop knot on the upper jig because it let's it hang far enough way from main line and helps with hooks ups. I have tried just tying two since knots on both jigs and have missed fish on the upper jig because the line got in the way. This is my now go to double jig rig. Thanks for sharing. Outstanding.

Thank you, I really appreciate it! A lot of folks will use loop knots on both the top and bottom. I really prefer a direct cinch-style of knot on the bottom, because you make make the jig stand straight out. I think that helps with hookups too. Thanks for watching and leaving feedback!

I prefer loop knots on both jigs. I had always just used clinch knots to tie my jigs on, but saw a video a couple years ago about loop knots. Since going to loop knots we’ve never caught as many fish as when we didn’t use them. It allows them to hang at the correct angle all the time. We even did a study loop vs clinch knots. Loop knots won almost 2:1

Nice! I still prefer a direct cinch knot on my bottom jig. The key for me, is I can stand the jig straight out with a cinch knot. I've not personally noticed any difference in hookups with a loop or direct cinch on the bottom jig. I think it sometimes comes down to what you have confidence in. That cinch knot is one I learned decades ago bass fishing, and have used and applied it many ways over the years. Plus, I can tie it really fast (especially when my digits are freezing!). Tight lines!

Why not loop knot both to get better action on the bottom jig
@OutdoorQuests
@OutdoorQuests Ай бұрын
IMO based on what I see on livescope, jig action isn't that important (if it even matters at all) in triggering crappie. I primarily like the efficiency of a double jig setup to test colors to see if one color is more effective than another. It's also a lot easier to see 2 jigs vs 1 on the sonar. I appreciate you watching. Tight lines.

as far as color for those two jigs, do you mix them up or match them? does it matter?
@OutdoorQuests
@OutdoorQuests 10 ай бұрын
I always prefer to start with two different colors. It's a great way to tell if they're being picky, if you see they're consistently hitting one color. Or, if they're not hitting either, switch both up. You'll dial in your color selection twice as fast that way. If I find they're smashing one color consistently, at that point I may use the same color on both jigs. Hope this helps. Thank you very much for watching! -Cody

I don't know what knot you tied first but I've tried it fives times and it doesn't make a knot. I can pull it off

Run the main line through the eyelet, then hold the jighead and main line between your index and thumb. Take the tag end and go around your thumb and the main line 3 times, then take the 3 loops off your thumb, and run the tag line up through those 3 loops. Hope that helps. Around the 3:50 mark, I show how to tie a palomar on the bottom jig. I like the first knot though.

What if both the jigs are the same weight, will they tangle?

They can, depends on which jig hits the water first. Having the same weight works though. Thanks for watching!

I feel like no matter what my top jig is running in front of my line when being retrieved in water instead of behind it
@OutdoorQuests
@OutdoorQuests Жыл бұрын
Agree, when retrieving it's not really an issue what's on top, as long as it's a cast and instant retrieve technic. It's the vertical drop where a heavier jig on top can drop faster if you have a lighter jig on the bottom. Thank you very much for watching and commenting Cameron, I really appreciate it!
