It reminds me of two Overhand knots woven together, one vertically and one horizontally. It gives more or less the same shape as this.

Would this work with satin cord/rattail/mousetail cord? I was going to space out basic knots but figured they won't hold unless glued.

Would work for sure, but yes, as you mentioned, you would have to glue the ends after you snip them to hold.
