I have always used the single palomar, never have had one slip. That said, double will be that much better.

I've heard some anglers say they've never had trouble with a single Palomar but I've also heard that it can slip so I always tie a double for an extra safety measure.

Awesome vid with great tips! Never had a palomar slip on me with braid in 25+ years of musky fishing, even on our monster GB fish - with many over 50. However, I will DEFINITELY try out the double palomar this season! Just in case. Better safe than sorry! ;)

Thanks for the comment Bob and glad you found it helpful! Hope you catch many more 50s!

You had Palomar knots slip?!?!

I've never used a single Palomar with braid. Have always been encouraged by those more experienced than I to stay away as they have heard of it slipping or breaking. I've never heard of anyone having issues with a double Palomar and I've never had an issue myself.

@@sgangling thats wild, I never heard or read anything like that about the palomar, Ive been using it for 20+yrs and never had one fail. Ive straightened out plenty of 7/0 hooks with it.

@@teamtadpoleoutdoors5050 The Palomar is one of the weaker knots you can tie with braid. In the Knot wars TV show it tested fair to poor with braid at 7th against the other 16 knots that were tested. It also had a very poor placing with mono at 14th among the 16 knots that were tested with mono, beating out only the Clinch knot and the Grinner knot.. My Fish-N-Fool knot was and still is the strongest knot ever tested with braid and mono.

@@FishNFoolLures that's very interesting, most videos and test I've seen say otherwise. I guess to each their own, I have yet to have a palomar knot fail, getting snagged with 80lb test, straightening hooks and moving log never had a knot break. But again I retie often.

Huh I learned something new. I have always used the polymar knot and never had any issues but you can bet I'll be tying a double polymer knot from now on. Thanks man!

I'm glad to hear that! The weakest links always seem to break when the biggest fish is on the line so hopefully it helps you avoid a breakoff with your next 50!

I think I do something similar to Dirk with the Fisherman's knot, aka Improved Clinch knot. I double the line around the ring and have eliminated break offs from excessive wear. At least I have not had any issues with this version of the knot for 20+ years.

I use the first knot but with the dyneema line doubled-over to start with, not single wire like you showed. That increases knot-strength a lot, never had one fail on me in 20+ years. Even landed a shopping mall cart with it 🤣

Nice man! A shopping cart 🤣. Now that's a new one.

Thought I was in for my biggest Northern of my life because it kept swaying left and right like a big fish but then the orange handle surfaced … Managed to land it and retrieve my favourite own handmade glider at the same time. Weirdest PB ever :p
