So here's my first ever knot tying video and how I make heavy duty lures for toothy critters, I hope you like it! Btw in the video I keep saying I'm tying on a barrel swivel but the swivel I'm actually using is a ball bearing swivel, which is a bit different. Either a barrel swivel or a ball bearing swivel works, just use the right pound test rating for your application. Thanks for watching ✌ 👍 💚 🤓

Huge save as I’m going for trophy pike this weekend. Couldn’t find a knot I liked that I could tie with 0.96mm fluorocarbon. This was the best knot for rigging up my pike leaders. Thanks so much!!

Great stuff! I've been fighting with clinch knots and polymer knots and not having too much success. Tightening up the 50lb fluoro on a small swivel was frustrating to say the least. I think maybe you just saved me a whole lot of swear'n. Thanks Man. Subbed, belled and liked.

Happy to help, and yeah like you I wrestled MANY times with heavy leader material and knots just not tightening up or looking like crap and all crooked. This is definitely the best way I've found to date and they stay tight! Thanks so much for the sub and smacking that like button 👊✌

Can I utilise this knot and fluorocarbon to create a leader for fly fishing for pike ?.
@CT-gc1ck Жыл бұрын
Hey Dan great videos as usual. I've never used these before. Do they really do that well with toothy critters? Also, can you use these say from braid to this with jigs? Thanks!
@DanRichardFishing Жыл бұрын
Hi CT! I have done 2 Pike tournaments and a ton of pike fishing since this video with ZERO breaks so definitely works awesome. I use these with braid on the reels and I use it for hardbaits of all sizes, spinnerbaits and yoyoing rattlebaits. About the only thing you can't use it on would be jerkbaits so I really love these.
@CT-gc1ck Жыл бұрын
@@DanRichardFishing thanks for the response, Dan! Sorry to take up a lot of your time. How come not jerk baits? How about top water walk the dogs? Thank you.

If your pulling cranks do you still use a swivel? Or do you just tie a loop in one end?
@DanRichardFishing3 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne, good question! I'll still use the swivel like this in this video, it doesn't impact the crankbait action anymore than the heavy fluoro already does.
@camronandersen3 жыл бұрын
how often or after how many bites do you change out your leader?
@DanRichardFishing3 жыл бұрын
I'll change it if I start feeling some nicks in the leader and I feel like it could easily snap. Sometimes I'll catch 10 pike with absolutely no damage to the line. Just check it after every fish.

I’m going to try this with 40# mono just because that’s what I have on hand for now

Tag thru eye 3 wraps up main, 3 wraps back down, feed tag thru bottom loop at eye, wdt & cinch. 20 seconds Vs. 9 minutes.
@DanRichardFishing2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you're talking about, I have this knot practiced and can tie it in 20 seconds if I don't have to do it slow to show somebody like in this video. Any knot looks complicated and slow if you don't know how to tie it.

So I guess you should be surfing tiktok 🤣 Personally I hate videos where people show how to tie new knots and they go way too fast so I always take my time and I go through the knot two or three times so that the viewer can learn it easily. What's the point in doing a 40 second knot video when the user has to rewind it five times because you're going too fast?

@DanRichardFishing3 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's why this knot works well... try tying a uni with 100lbs... ugh lol!
@rickwilliams69223 жыл бұрын
if you would have made an extra lope through your swivel, hook or what ever an then tied your knot it would have twice the strength.
@DanRichardFishing3 жыл бұрын
No need with the heavier leader material, you're just making the knot bulkier than it needs to be imo.

I guess the pike and musky have become frightened by the wire leaders that have been used for the past 70 years. Can't believe how much the fishes brain has developed over the past 2 decades that they now know the leader pulling that foot long collection of feathers and metal blades is a signal something is not right .
@DanRichardFishing11 ай бұрын
I can assure you that wire leaders made fish skittish 70 years ago as well, there was just no better solution and that's all we had.
@IcatchTuna10 ай бұрын
Good lord it's not that complicated. 100lb flouro use a uni, Spangler, springer, san diego jam, trilene, improved clinch, perfection loop, any of these super easy. We do realize salt water anglers tie knots in 100lb all time. If you asked me for easiest 3 turn uni , strongest a Spangler.
@mariodesmet Жыл бұрын
Dont like those snaps😮😮😮 Try staylock snaps
@DanRichardFishing Жыл бұрын
I have never had an issue with these snaps in years, they stay totally locked even on big fish with massive lures. I like them because they're really not bulky but super strong.
@FishNFoolLures15 күн бұрын
First off, there is no reason to use a swivel for Pike or Muskie fishing. Tie the fluorocarbon to your main line braid with an FG knot, and that knot you showed it far too complicated to tie on a snap. I use a 4 turn uni for that, and it has NEVER failed me. I can put a new leader on in just a few minutes with my 80lb Yo-Zuri pink leader. This leaves the minimal amount of crap on your line and is as strong or stronger than the setup you use. I have caught hundreds of big Pike and Muskies on this setup. I also do use the same Dou-Lock type snap you use, and I have had some big Pike totally destroy them, but I have not found a snap I like better so far.
@DanRichardFishing13 күн бұрын
@@FishNFoolLures literally every top musky guide I know uses leaders with swivels, what are you on about? You shouldn't be using an FG on 80 to 120 pound fluoro and you're using crap hardware if big fish are scraping your snaps. There's no reason not to use this setup, WAY faster than retying knots in zero degree weather and tournaments or with clients. Happy your way works for you, but doesn't make other more efficient methods invalid.

You're absolutely right, these knots don't budge, slip or break and neither to the fish once they bite, these knots are the best! I just came in fifth place in a pike fishing tournament here in Canada with 300 teams, and this is exactly the knot and leaders I was using!
