Hi Dave, that's an oldie but goodie. I think he developed that in the 60's, I was 11 I think. But I didn't see it until the 80's when I got into tying and later steelhead patterns. You'd never think it would be so successful on so many speices. I guess it's the power of simplicity and pheasant tail fibers, and the person "working the string" on that puppet. Sadly, I don't remember ever tying it or fishing it, despite all the pheasant skins and tails I've aquired over the years. Also, I'm more familiar with the double legged version, at least in my mind. I'll have to tie some for trout next year, perhaps with other tail fibers like turkey. Thanks Dave, now I'll have to watch your interview with Teeny. Yesterday I watched some tutorials on this as well as some Teeny interviews. Thanks again Dave 👍😎🍺

just listened to the podcast with Jim Teeny today. Immediately went looking for this pattern. Nice and simple. I might try it with a 3.8mm tungsten bead too.

Well, the Fly-Tying Bible talks about this nymph, and the three or four youtube videos I've watched ALL talk about figuring out how long the fibers should be where it's tied in. BUT, not one of them actually says how long the fibers should be. Don't like the idea of cutting the fiber "legs" to get them right... but, seems that's the only way to do it.

Good point. I guess you could try to stack the fibers to get them exact but I like a little bit of an uneven tail. I sometimes wonder if it's critical on the tail length? Thanks for your feedback.

You flashed the hook package so quickly, I could no read it. Can you list the materials used?

Frank Williams Hi Frank. I believe he said a Daiichi 1560 in size 12. Hope that helps.
