Does this require a super long tie? I kept running out of tie and didnt have enough to finish the last step

A standard length tie should be fine (although the longer the tie, the easier this knot becomes). I'm using a standard length tie in this video. Perhaps try positioning the narrow end of your tie slightly lower before commencing the knot. A little trial-and-error usually helps to find that sweet spot. Hope this helps.
