I had trouble tying my first tie, it took me a solid hour. This video taught me a new tie in literally 5 minutes, and to add to that, this is probably the best-looking tie I have ever learned to tie. Does this require a super long tie? I kept running out of tie and didnt have enough to finish the last step

A standard length tie should be fine (although the longer the tie, the easier this knot becomes). I'm using a standard length tie in this video. Perhaps try positioning the narrow end of your tie slightly lower before commencing the knot. A little trial-and-error usually helps to find that sweet spot. Hope this helps.
