Thanks I started using this last season but sometimes the line with the hook wraps itself around the main line though.
@FishingLongIsland Жыл бұрын
Yeah that can be a pain. Maybe go to bottom slower??
@JeffSmith-eq3kc Жыл бұрын
I really liked how quickly you could tie this, how clean it is, simple. I tried with different test line, tried adding another turn to the knot, tried going crazy pulling it tight. I must have tested it 20 times. When i simulated a fish and pulled from the hook the knot slipped everytime. I tried multiple times with 40lb mono thinking it was me but couldn't get more than 12lbs of pressure before it slipped. It didn't matter what test mono or flouro i used, it slipped. To compare, with a basic 6 turn dropper loop i get 30lbs of realistic pressure before it slips. I really wanted to like this rig but I don't think im making a mistake tying it and its just not fishable for me. I use a spring scale to measure. Machines are useful but i don't think they give you real life numbers. I get 95%+ with a 5 turn uni knot using 40lb mono on the machine. In real life it's more like 80-85%.

Yes. If you see the thumbnail image , that’s the way I like it. I look through camera screen so sometimes it’s hard to see when tying. Just please hook the right way before tying the knot and it will fall perfectly.

One question about that rig. Do you think it matters if the hook point is facing the mainline or away from it? I always tie mine with the hook point facing out. Just curious

Question: is this rig better for blackfish than the blackfish jigs? Im ALWAYS getting snagged on the rocks at the jetty. I will be using green crab. Thanks!
@FishingLongIsland2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love the black fish jig. Probably one of the best ways to fish for blackfish. This really works well to keep the crab suspended. I would give it a whirl on the jetties and see how it goes. I’ve never fished the jetties for blackfish. But the less you move the weight or jigs around, the less you will get snagged.
@honkeytonkjohnnygumbo11372 жыл бұрын

I have a quick question, I am going on my first deep sea fishing charter for fluke and sea bass and I have a conventional reel with 50lb fluorocarbon. For this standoff rig, can I use a Berkeley gulp soft plastic minnow using this rig or is this rig meant for natural baits like squid etc?

Maybe work for boat fishing where you can let fish run abit. I fish from shore and this knot will not hold it. Where i fish the drag will be lock because fish will run for the rock and wont come out, this knot broke on big fish because of frictions. Only uni knot for the swivel and loop knot for the hook can handle the tog power. Tight line.
@FishingLongIsland2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the input. I would have to agree about shore fishing is a different game.
@JeffSmith-eq3kc Жыл бұрын
@@davidparker667this is MUCH weaker than a dropper loop. I literally tested both yesterday. Been trying blackfish rigs for an upcoming trip so figured I'd try this and it's the weakest rig I've personally seen. A 40lb line, 6 turn dropper loop slipped at 27-30lbs over multiple attempts. I couldn't get this knot over 12lbs using the same line. I tried and tried and tried but tying a separate piece of mono onto another like this just can't hold up to much. This knot/rig is unfishable to me. I have caught a lot of very nice fish on a dropper loop. Whether you're going straight hook on a longer dropper loop or attaching a leader to a small dropper loop, it is strong enough to catch big fish.

Why a perfection loop for the sinker? Is there a reason or you just like that knot? You could also make a large dropper for the hook or do a cut dropper. I like to use the cut on the top bucktail for fluke.
