Do the rubber bands serve a purpose other than holding g the shirt tight? Why do some use liquid versus dry powder dye?
@BrendenStewartАй бұрын
The rubber bands are just there to keep the shirt nice and tight, essentially keeping the folds together while the dye sets in. Liquid dye gives very predictable colors in the end product. Using powder dye with ice over it allows the colors to “split”. For example if you choose a green powder dye, that green is actually a combination of yellow and blue powder. When your green “splits” it will produce some green some yellow and some blue colors on the shirt. Basically powder dyes produce more unpredictable results. 😀

Awesome shirt! I just ordered some Dharma colors yesterday, so I've been looking at some videos to get ideas. My last set was liquid dye from Dharma (now discontinued) so this should be fun. I have a question and so far I haven't been able to find an answer. When you are doing ice dye, what would happen if you were to place a prepared shirt underneath your rack to catch the drips and have a twofer? It might require a little extra dye and ice on the top one, but have you tried it, or found anyone who has? It might be a fun experiment "for the sake of science".

That’s a cool idea! I think the shirt below the rack would be considered a “muck dye” which is a technique I haven’t tried yet. If you want to get a sense of how the bottom shirt might turn out I would KZbin that term. Sounds like a cool experiment 😀

I just did my first spiral ice dye and I added more ice and dye after the first round of ice melted because there was still white showing . I love how you left the white in the middle and the design is beautiful! Thank you!
