From the few gravity dyes I've done, I've noticed that diagonal dye placement makes really interesting splits and flows

Heres a thought...what if the under fabric you use is a vinyl table cloth? You know the kind with a flannel backing. Non absorbent so you get more flow, stiff enough to hold a shape. Might give more details in the "valleys" . Thanks for all the effort you put in to make a great video!

Corky, do you wash the fleece after the garment you dyed is removed? I know the dye isn't supposed to bond with the fleece, but thought it would probably transfer dye from one project to another if not washed. Do you agree? Thank you!
@corkylorenz

I haven’t been washing it. I rinse it for about a minute, then spin it out and reuse it. I’m not seeing noticeable dye transfer. 🥳

Corky, thank you so much for making the tutorial and demonstrating how you made the original t-shirt mentioned in the video. I have loved that shirt from the moment I first saw it. I tried (unsuccessfully) to recreate it. I knew that is impossible from experience, but one can try. Still love that shirt and will try again! 😊 Thanks for the great video! The fleece idea was genius!

Beautiful technique and thanks for sharing ❤ I’ve been trying to achieve this flowy technique for quite a while, getting closer but “not quite there”. I think this will help. On the fleece that you use, do you dampen it first before placing it under the shirt or does it matter? Do you turn the t shirt inside out? Thank you in advance for your reply 🙏🏻❤🙏🏻

hi there, just found your channel as that lovely flowy tee showed up during my searches! gorgeous, i'm going to try it ASAP! as eagrinstead1 said with putting indigo halfway down also, is that what you meant by detail colors? I'm not sure I understand...I've been tie dyeing for 4 years but I don't think I have that kind of detailed thought process lol...no pun intended...

Thank you Corky! One question: I recently purchased a panda spinner and I was wondering how long do you spin your shirts? I was concerned they may get too dry and the soda ash won’t react.
@corkylorenz

I don’t know if it’s possible to get it too dry. I always sprinkle a little more soda ash on top anyway. 😅 I probably spin it for 20 seconds? I’ll need to count next time.

What dimensions are for the baskets and fleece. Thanks
@corkylorenz
@corkylorenz 5 күн бұрын
To start, i would probably suggest getting 2 yards of fleece. Then lay it out and put items on it that you frequently dye, so you can cut it to fit those. You can use a bigger piece than you need. I think the baskets are 14” x 10” but I don’t remember exactly how deep they are.

I love this blanket method that you’ve been experimenting with. I have wondered about using thicker fabric underneath but have yet to try it. You have moving the needle and helping push me in that direction for those flowy, watercolor looks. Another question, what ice maker do you use? I would love to get something small installed in my garage so I’m reducing my use of Costco ice and gas station ice. It’s so pricey over time!

Hi - I've been trying to find a way to get better flow on some 100% cotton shirts like I do with cotton blend sweatshirts... is a microfiber towel the same since it's 100% poly? Or a baby burp towel at 100% poly? I was thinking of putting a light towel over my projects, then ice, then dye - in hopes of capturing flow...your doing underneath ?? Wowza ! As long as it's 100% poly - does it work? Wow thanks
