surgeon knot i found to be the best for small diameter braid and leader, x5 turns. FG may damage leader too much and is time consuming to tie after breakage.

If you use 4-strands for spacer PE and half hitch after FG knot, please refer to this instead of half hitch : kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYvbi32FoJt2mKM It compensates for the shortcomings of the FG knot and increases the binding strength.

@@flicknfishwithanthony Yeah from memory he said it was 8m spacer leader to 4m shock leader. He uses spacer leader because he likes to cast with the leader FG knot in the spool. Having the spacer leader avoids wind knots when casting like this. But also he said that if you’re shock leader is shorter than 2m then he doesn’t use a spacer leader at all, so only use a spacer leader when you require a longer shock leader length. He also only exclusively uses stickbaits and poppers shore casting with his PE4 setup and doesn’t use it to jig, he uses his PE3 setup for shore jigging. This is probably also why he uses a spacer leader for his PE4 setup, to help ensure that he doesn’t lose his stickbait as he has more leader line to help him fight fish with. He uses a shorter leader line for his PE3 setup so usually he doesn’t require a spacer leader for it

Hello. Im new to shore jigging and my line is always cut through the ledge everytime i hooked a big fish since the ledge is about 10 mtrs away from where i cast. I tried using 4-5 mtrs of leader connected to my mainline and i always hear like my guide is knocking out or breaking when the fg connection is coming out of it everytime i cast. I mean this could help me alot if i use spacer. I use pe3 main line but my rod capacity is only pe 1.5- 3.5. Should i be worried about the friction it creates when coming out of my rod or is it normal?

For a PE3 main line a PE6 spacer is best and shouldn’t be a problem with going through the guides so as long as the FG Knot is properly tied like how Numata has done it in the video. However if you’re having problems with landing fish because you’re standing 10m from the edge of the shoreline I would suggest you find a different spot so you can safely land fish. No matter how thick your main line or leader is it will eventually break when rubbed against any abrasive surface such as rocks on the shoreline.

That is my main problem because i cannot go down near the ledge. But this one would gave me big chance of landing. Thank you so much. I was just bit worried of the knock sound on my guide while casting. Hope this could eliminate that or atleast reduce it. Ill try this method and get back to you after. A spacer leader is the braid line connection between the nylon shock leader and the main braid line. For example, if the main braid line is PE4 the spacer leader is PE8. The spacer leader is always x2 the line PE number. The spacer leader allows for a smooth transition gradient change from thick and hard nylon leader line to thin braid main line, since the space leader is the in-between thickness of the nylon shock leader and the braid main line. This allows for decreased wind knots when casting and will aid in more landing strength when the fish is close to the ledge.

In surf fishing in SA we use braid leader attached to braid main line and we typically use the PR knot for that. @@ShorrockPaul He uses the same FG Knot to tie to the nylon shock leader. The spacer leader is 8m long and the nylon shock leader is 4m long. He only does this for 10ft rod setups that are using PE4 or higher. For setups that are PE3 or lower he doesn’t use a spacer leader at all and he uses flurocarbon over nylon shock leader. His leader length for PE3 or under setups is 2m.
