three knots seems like it'll do the job! i just got fairy hair for the first time last weekend and ive already lost probably 75% of what was put in. the pieces falling out are *knotless* - i would think i'd see the knot still, where the tinsel slid down and off of the hair, but the lady basically only did that first knot you showed and left it at that, so theyre just coming totally undone! i got (a ridiculous amount of) hair tinsel from amazon. i have a barbie and a classic style my little pony who are about to be my beautification test subjects. i have faith in this three knots method thank youuu

I have curly hair should I curl it with scissors like you would to curl ribbon
@ElizabethSparkles

You could try that but the tinsel can be quite fragile so it may snap or give you a hard time tying it! You could also try twisting it into your curls with your fingers or wrapping it around a curling iron at a very low heat 😊

Does your hair need to be dirty or freshly washed?
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles 6 ай бұрын
Doesn’t really matter for the knot tying, but it can slide out when washing if you’re not super careful around the knot at the roots, so if you do it freshly washed you can maybe get a bit more longevity out of them before needing to wash again!

How long do they usually last?
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles Жыл бұрын
It really depends on how you care for it, and if it’s properly tied! I do a new colour every month for my mom and she usually has most of her tinsel left by the next month, so they last at least a month for her. She brushes very carefully and doesn’t heat style her hair. If you tie it the way I demonstrate in this video, it takes quite a bit of force to pull it out of the hair.

The second knot where you pull both sides apart and get it to lock is essential to keeping it in. Otherwise it will slide right out!
@missmollymay1989
@missmollymay1989 8 ай бұрын
My tinsel still slides right off the root when I put it on! I don’t know what I’m doing wrong…😭
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles 8 ай бұрын
The “locking” where you pull the two sides of the tinsel away from each other and kind of twist back and forth is a very important step to keep it from sliding! You’ll feel it lock into place if you’ve tied the first two knots properly (and then one final knot to secure everything). It definitely takes a bit of practice to get the knots right, especially if you’re doing it on your own head!
@caittyk

Still pulls out
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles Жыл бұрын
After the second knot you should feel it lock into place! If it’s still pulling out, it probably didn’t lock properly with the knot. Sometimes you have to shimmy each side of the tinsel strand back and forth to get it to lock in before doing the final knot 😊
@briebrantley6866
@briebrantley6866 Жыл бұрын
Mine never “locks”. It slid out as well.
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles Жыл бұрын
I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling!! As long as your first two knots are done properly you should have no problem locking it! Separate the two strands and pull them away from each other up and down, left and right, and make sure it’s locked before tying the final knot with the two strands together. It’s definitely finicky and takes some practice!!

Not sure what the benefit of a slip knot is as opposed to making a regular knot.
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles Жыл бұрын
The slip knot makes it easy to keep the two sides of the tinsel even, and to wrap it around the hair without making a tangled mess. From there you tie regular knots to secure it in place and keep it from sliding out. Tinsel lasts for weeks with this tying technique. Tie your tinsel whatever way works best for you! Just sharing what works best for me.

@@ElizabethSparkles do you recommend a tinsel tool kit or something? I’ve been trying to do the slip knot method for years and it takes me FOREVER. I just noticed some people use beads.
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles Жыл бұрын
I’ve actually never tried it with beads, but I’ve tried hair feathers and coloured hair extensions using beads and I just don’t prefer them because they’re really bulky in the hair and I find the extension can get pulled out easily. But worth a try if you’re struggling with tying knots!

So i have a very interesting question. I curled my hair this morning (with my tinsel in, its pink which doesn’t matter really) I noticed earlier that my hair has been almost dyed looking pink 😳 what do i do? I haven’t found anything on it ANYWHERE I also have blonde highlighted hair so it’s pretty noticeable.
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles Жыл бұрын
Huh. That is super interesting. Is the tinsel still hanging there but the colour has transferred into your hair? Or did the tinsel basically melt into your hair? This is a first for me!
@reyseholladay
@reyseholladay Жыл бұрын
@@ElizabethSparkles The tinsel is still hanging there fine and intact, the color has just transferred on to my hair and actually on to my straightener as well. I guess I’ll update when I wash my hair tomorrow and see if it comes out 🤷🏼‍♀️
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles Жыл бұрын
@reyseholladay yikes! Sorry to hear that happened! I usually only use heat on it at a verrrry low temperature otherwise it will melt, and some tinsel may not be able to take any heat at all 😬 hopefully it comes out when you wash it!

Now what bout curly poofy hair
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles 10 ай бұрын
You can tie it in the same way, but it can be a struggle because the tinsel is soooo straight it’s hard to get it to blend in nicely with your natural hair. You can give the tinsel a bit of a curl really carefully with a curling iron on low heat and twist it around your natural curls, but depending on your curl pattern you may not love the way it looks! This knotting method should be secure either way, but the finished look will vary. 😊

@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles 5 ай бұрын
Sometimes for whatever reason it just doesn’t happen for me and I have to just start over with a new strand! You’ll know it worked if you gently tug on it and it isn’t sliding. If it slides, the lock didn’t work!

So Im curious, if I had these tinsels in my hair and wanted to wear my hair curled.. what is the best method to curl the tinsel as well to match ?
@ElizabethSparkles
@ElizabethSparkles Жыл бұрын
Hi! I just curl my hair normally and include the tinsel right in with my hair, I just make sure I do it in small sections at a low temperature. Definitely test your tinsel first to see how it reacts to the heat because some may not take the heat as well as others! Then I just use my fingers to wrap around and shape it into the curl if anything looks weird 😊
