I use a very similar rig to this, which i've used on the river Bain in Lincolnshire. I use a jigger float, which is normally used for fishing for F1's on commercial ponds with a pole. Normally you'd have a bulk of shot under the float at the hook length loop and a float stop about a foots or 2 above the float so its free running between as the jigger has a hole at the top and the bottom. This is so you can lift and drop the bait, so it lifts and flutters down, and you ping pellets or caster over the top. There is a hollow stem on the float, so the line runs through the centre of the float with no resistance and fish hook themselves. On the Bain I just put 2 float stops directly above the float and a bulk directly under the float so it's locked in place at the depth you want. It can be fished in water as shallow as 3-4 inches deep. I think you'd find the jigger floats might be better for this style of shallow water fishing for chub and big roach and anything else you're targeting in very shallow water. If you do try this, get the bigger jiggers which are just fatter, but the same length which is about 1 inch, you can get them preloaded so you'd just put a float stop under the float. Most jiggers don't say what weight they are and go by the pellet size used which can be a pain for this type of river fishing. I use a jigger for a 10mm pellet from preston innovations as they are the heaviest. I've also used blob floats, which are basically a poly ball with a hole though.

Do you generally fish upstream or downstream using the Jiggers?

Abndrew, thank you for this rig. It has triggered some ideas for chasing mini species in rivers with micro lures, BFS fishing, got to be worth a try. Brilliant, I shall be watchig this again..

I had my biggest roach of 2lbs 6oz as well as a chub of 7lbs 10oz. I've even had some big bream over 9lbs on the canal stretch in Horncastle. Some good trout in there as well.

As long as your rivers are shallow and you will use big baits, you should be fine.

Please stop using the phrases " killer rig " and "deadly" our lovely sport does not need attention from the anti angling brigade .. its a highly effective rig ..nice
