I passed through one that required no ticket. You just had to pay 2,30. It was from Pompeii to Sorrento. My card didn't work and I only had a 50 euro bill, which was not accepted. After a couple of minutes, the barrier just opened. Do you know if there is a way for me to pay that afterwards?

Ahh now I see. My first issue was the system wouldn’t switch to English after pushing the button for that language. Then I didn’t realize the ticket slot is the same slot you insert your credit card. A couple minutes later and after getting honked at by 3 cars, an attendant connected via speaker and I ended up paying with cash. Oh well

Where exactly you get yhe ticket? You get it on the highway on ramp? At the toll? If at the toll, where is usually the lane that you get the ticket from? Left, right, middle lane?

At the toll station where you first enter the autostrada. If you are starting at the beginning of the autostrada, it will be usually be near the start. If you are entering somewhere in the middle, then the toll station is on the approach road to the on ramp. As you enter, go into the lane marked "Biglietto" to get your ticket. Avoid the yellow signed lanes as those are for Telepass which is the electronic toll collection (ETC) system used in Italy. Telepass exclusive lanes are also marked with yellow chevrons on the payment leading up to them. Ticket lanes are usually the middle and right lanes at the toll stations while Telepass lanes are on the left. After you get your ticket, make sure you get on the correct on-ramp for your direction as the toll stations serve both directions of travel. There will be two large green signs at the split with an arrow indicating which major city is for each ramp.

@@navinkaus You put the ticket in the machine when you leave the autostrada and based upon your entry point, your toll will be calculated. It's a similar system to the French autoroute system or the old ticket based system on US turnpikes such the Ohio Turnpike and Indiana Toll Road.

the telepass *generally* are just an automatic ticket payer, to make it so you don't have to stop at the toll, but the ticket is still payed, and you're paying the "telepass fee" as well. Maybe with some promotions you can get a discount or something
