How to topdress using topsoil. fix a muddy yard by applying more soil. If you want to know how to fix a flooded lawn, its pretty much the same thing. I started by identifying the worst spots, or the lowest of the low spots. I then purchased almost two tons of topsoil. So now i can show you how to fix a yard with topsoil. DIY lawn repair can be such difficult work sometimes, but it is very rewarding. To level my lawn, or level a lawn, you basically topdress with topsoil, start smoothing a yard, then roll it with the lawn roller. Regrading a yard is a great way of how to fix barespots in the lawn. If you seriously want to know how to smooth a lawn, just follow my steps! This work took place on Friday evening and Saturday evening. I had a very short window to get it done as it has already rained (Sunday morning). I didn't want the ditch that was in the yard to become any bigger, so i filled it in before it had to deal with any more water. I think it will be fine as long as we don't have any more gully washers or really heavy rains. I still have a couple bags of soil left as well as seed so i can do some more light repairs if i need to, but i'm hoping things will just fill in and start being beautiful.

Did you wait until ypur lawn was free of water before applying the Top Soil. I have a large backyard that has numerous low spots which retain water. I live in Chesapeake Virginia. I have paid a certified contractor to put soil in the low spots of my yard but it was a waiste of my money as the sand and dirt they used did not level the low spots but made the yard worst than it was before.

I want to ask you about putting down grass seeds. Do you (did you) put down grass seeds in that area? If not, is it because the existing grass will slowly growout in the fixed area?

Nice work! I think you might wanna use Back fill dirt first as it will hold up better in heavy rain then to use the compost. Compost alone will wash out every time. Compost is really meant for a well establish yard as just top dress basically adding some organic material to your lawn. Not telling you how to do your thing man, just trying to help.

I bet it looks great now. We are also in RVA. I would love to do this to my parents back yard, but I'm afraid it would either be a waste of time or cost insane amounts of $$. Their yard is slanted and all of the water from the neighbors when it rains has completely washed away almost all topsoil. So much so that the roots of the trees are visible (which is very dangerous in itself because of falling)
@RVALawnLove

@@RVALawnLove I was talking to them about digging a small ditch at the property line and adding a drain that would divert the water to the front in the ditch and the back to an old creek that runs along the back property line. I'm going to get some bags of topsoil and some seed and try testing a small area of the yard to see if the seed will take before doing anything drastic though

Hey Whatsup man great videos . Quick question . On the side of my house behind fence it’s about 6 feet wide walk way about 60 feet deep to the back yard , that whole area is complete mud now in my new home . Normal rain and sprinkle water just stays there and I can’t even step in without having my whole feet in mud. I am getting different answers from people. Some say out heavy layer of top soil , some say fill with sand and then top soil or what not and some say fill it with top soil and lay new sod on top of it although some of my grass is fine but after sprinkles are on it gets way too watery if u know what I mean. Can you recommend me what should i do? I just want a clean normal leveled area to walk on without having to worry worry mud all over shoes lol . Thanks in advance

Sara Delilah My suggestion would to be to fill it with cheap or free dirt if possible, and roll the hell out of it to pack it. If it’s packed, it will be a little bit easier to drive over because if it’s not packed it will just turn to a big mud puddle quickly. Gravel would go along way in helping you out if you’re trying to make it into a driveway

Hey i just purchased my first house and it has a couple large low spots (about 10x15ft) along with some ruts from run off wash outs. I was always told that adding top soil like that will just divert water to different Spots instead of holding it all in one spot since the water stays on the water table under the top dress. I suppose the idea is that it will percolate better over a bigger area?

@RVALawnLove
@RVALawnLove 6 жыл бұрын
Echo Mclin it depends on where you live. If you are far south, like Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and so on.....your growing season is longer, and it might be possible. Anywhere north of that and you’re probably nearing the end of your season, as temps are getting much cooler really quickly. As for the dogs, they’ll tear up baby grass just by walking, so limit that traffic as much as you can. I know dogs got to be dogs, but any traffic on new grass can be detrimental, especially when it just came out of the ground
