How to Trace and Replace VSS Wiring Harness Chevy Silverado

I'll show you how to make a wiring harness and replace VSS wiring harness. This will fix the Chevy Code C0055 Vehicle Speed Sensor when replacing the sensor doesn't work. Will take care of the erratic speedometer and odd shifting problems caused by code C0055.

Man I won’t lie my trucks been down 3 months since the erratic shifting and even took it to transmission shop they said transmission was mechanically fine but had some ecm or eletrical issues so I ended up ordering a programmed ecm ( that didn’t fix the issue ) now used a exspensive scantoool at school and found out wiring issue

thanks for to info, my 2005 GMC sierra 1500 4wd is doing the same thing. Digging into harness tomorrow. Already checked grounds and changed the sensor with no luck.

@@FreeAutoMechanic what i have found so far is, there are 3 different sensors in my transfer case. Two on driver side ( 1 on front of transfer case and one on back top) and one on passenger side back top if TC. i have replaced all 3 and the codes cleared, i am waiting on rotors and brakes then test drive. will keep you posted on outcome, but one of the sensors did not show any resistance on ohm meter

Ok, I traced the wiring harness and found a plug on front of transfer case harness near transmission on top that was not getting voltage through the plug to send signal back to the pcm that the vss was working. I just cut plug out and spliced and soldered new wire in place. Fixed the problem

Mice are horrible, they eat sleep and mess in their nests. Urine is highly corrosive and is conductive, twisted pair can have issues with urine. The wires are twisted for impedance matching. Try to put the same twist back into the signal wires as original.

03 sierra1500 4.8 was running fine until we got some heavy rain it starting to shift like on your first video. Rpms went high didn't shift past 2nd. I have no check engine light on so probably no codes. My first thought was need new transmission. Im hoping it's just a bad wiring harness 😢

I am curious, when you showed the wiring at the fuse box, was that wire actually fused, or did the harness just pass through to the TCM? I don’t have issues at the fuse box. Thinking of tapping in before the box. Thoughts? It’s been quite a while now since this post. I know you were good for at least a month. All still good?

The wire was not fused, And as of right now all is still working beautifully! Shifting good without issues. The important thing is to make sure you correct the issue that you have. Replacing most of the wire lessens the possibility of reoccurrences. Good luck with your project.

So, I have the 2006 Duramax. Can’t find the twisted pair in the ECM harness. I do have a TCM. Do you have the same setup in your truck? I have much less room to work with.

Got an 07 2500 classic body style with 6.0 gas and dog leg 4x4 the rear speed sensor wire is gone and the purple and white and green/black wires are plugged into the second speed sensor on the side of the engine the first one is red and blue where is the third sensor white located? For the one on the back of the transfer case vss wire

As long as you use a wire that is the same or a little heavier gauge you will be fine.
