Thank you for this video! I just worked my horse on the flag for the first time (for me, not her) today. She’s a seasoned cow horse, I need all the tips. Much appreciated!

I’ve watched this ten times over eh. Very clear instructions help a lot. I’ve always had cattle to work but not now so I’m learning about the flag. Id like to be your neighbor , I’d get it figured out. Thanks Larry for sharing your knowledge.

You are welcome, Bruce. Glad you liked it. Keep in mind, the flag is simply a tool to help with the training. It's not a substitute for working live cattle.

Bruce, I should also mention, if you truly want to learn how to train a top cutting horse, you need to go to my website and get my training course titled, "Cutting Horse Know How". You'll learn critical things which you won't find anywhere else.

I love the videos. I am just learning from my good friend and you, new ways to train my horses. I have never had any training to do so, but have been training the horses for our cattle ranch since I was 12 yrs of age. I imprint at birth and slowly progress as they are ready, the horse improving with lots of hours riding and working cattle. Of course most of our horses abilities happen naturally , I have not known how to put emphasis on their abilities or show them new ones. I have been breaking a colt using your training lessons and am amazed with this 2 yr old and loving it! I appreciate all the information my good friend has shared with me, much because you shared with him. Thanks much :)

Hi Jayme, BTW quit imprinting the foals. They'll make better cutting horses if they are NOT imprinted.

Larry, when you say you are using your foot, I gather you are using your calf and also the foot to use the spur? Could you also clarify your rein hand position. Your hand was lifting pretty high here, almost up to your chin. Is that allowed at certain cow events?

Hi Larry, I'm training my 4yo filly on Cowtrac twice a week and once a month on cattle with the Coolup Cutting Club in Western Australia. I follow your technique and I am see her develop very well. I have come across a problem though. Could I get your opinion on this please. Every now and then when I'm on the Flag only, she bolts forward near the top end of my arena and she got me out of the saddle last time. Ouch!! No buck in her but she over works things. It seems to be getting stronger in her as she gets stronger in herself. This has happened about 3 times now. When I came off her I got back on and worked the Flag and she was a bit tight but the soften up and worked well. I value your opinion.

Thank you so much for your videos, Larry! I have a quick question as an up and coming cutting horse trainer. I have heard two sides of the story and wanted to hear your opinion on the matter. When is the right age(of the horse obviously) to be doing cutting work? Some say two. Others say the horse's bones aren't fully developed and you should wait until at least three. What's your take?
@ltrocha
@ltrocha 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kaydin, I'm glad you liked the video. The question you ask makes me question you're serious about becoming a professional horse trainer. The absolute obvious answer is... you do whatever it takes to win... in conjunction with keeping the horse as healthy as possible. Keep in mind, you won't be able to make a living unless you WIN at the shows.
@kaydincathey
@kaydincathey 3 жыл бұрын
@@ltrocha of course! I'm still in the learning portion of it. Winning is obviously the goal of most riders including myself but I would never want to put an animal at risk for a check at a show. Its not that important to me. I figured I would get your opinion on the age because I am of the view that the older generation knows a heck of a lot more than the younger one. I can't help but respect your guys' experience and wisdom when it comes to the animal. So let me restate my question and say, what is the YOUNGEST you would ever climb on a horse? Considering both the animal and the end goal of winning in competition.

Is that area you're working your flag set up on about 60 ft? As that's all I have give or take in the back of my house and I was thinking 50 feet should probably be enough to work the flag...
@ltrocha
@ltrocha Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can probably get by with 50 feet but 100 feet would be much better.
