Im late but thank you so much for these tips! Me and my mare were struggling very hard with this, i tried it today and i saw so much improval in less than 20 minutes! Instead of trying to break trough the bit or just not reacting (and shes a offspring of vagabond de la pomme, so shes STRONG) she reacted very easely now😊

Like the brick wall. I have been struggling with my brothers horse and I see now that bringing the reins up to my chin and losing my balance to get him to stop. Love the motion to use the elbows vice the forearms. I hope this fixes my bad behavior

Larry, I believe you are the most thorough and easy to understand trainers out there.You give information in a most unpretentious manner, straight to the point and in layman terms. Littlesaiedog-I am not here to defend Larry but let me say that @3:40 and @9:20 when he states "I am not pulling" what most people understand Larry to say is that he is not pulling on the reigns and holding on to the horses face. That is what many inexperienced rider will do. Also @8:10 that is a bump for corection

I am beginning my journey to training reining and working cow horses. I'm working on improving the stops on my one gelding, and I was having an issue with tossing his head when I asked for the stop. Now that you brought up the fact that, instead on using one big set and release, use multiple smaller sets and releases, I think I'll be able to fix his problem! If I have any questions I will definitely come back to ask :)

Nice, yeah, there's many techniques, you'd be surprised, but depends on what you are trainr for. I like the wall analogy. I had a filly, 2 1\2, got her ready by 3, roping calves off her and just needed seasoning. In respects, I'm not gonna give or take from Mr. ltrocha's training. Anyway, there are just some horses that make it seem like you're good. 👍 And l know for dang sure Itrocha feels that about many horses. The horse is very sacred, what animal just looks as thou he's design for man? None, no animal, a horse, categorically is in his own, like we are and could be that we're both the same. Haha, l don't want to bring belief into this anidote, just philosophical meaning and reasonig. We're designed for the horse, 😄, if you think about it, our legs fit right and said we have the same gate. It's to mention, what about their withers, how it fits with our own hind end, our vertical smile, naturally grips and grabs so we can stick on the horse. 😀, haha, excuse the humor if it don't suit, but lm glad to share any which has to do with the horse. Hi Ty, yes your horse can get over that. However, you need to teach the horse to "GIVE TO YOUR HANDS". Do that and your rearing problems will be over.

I've only been riding western for a short while (about 3 months) after 34 yrs of english riding. Although I'm good at the stop and backing a few steps, last week my trainer started me on backing around a corner during a group lesson (the other riders have been doing western much longer than me so got it much quicker) next week when i have my lesson I shall use some of these tips and see if it helps me crack it. Hi Adria, That depends... it depends on your horse's trainability and athletic ability. It also depends on your ability to adapt the way you use your hands, seat and legs. Most riders don't and then wonder why the training didn't work for them. The most important fact... if you don't ride correctly, your horse won't work correctly.

Kaylee you need to set your stirrups to where you feel you can stand on them with a bend in you leg.. Ride a horse in a round pen with out hands, Stick your arms out to the side of you like a air plane and ride your horse going up and down with your arms in motion with the horse, Sit up and shoulders back and soften your back up. You will be able to develop balance doing this exercise. Do the same thing but next time move your arms in front like scissors. Do theses to exercises and you will develop balance. To understand where you need to be on your butt in the saddle. take your feet and put them up in front of the saddle horn. where you butt is in the saddle is where you need to be sitting. Now move your legs down and stick them in the stirrups with out moving your butt. If your legs wont go into the stirrups have someone adjust them with out you moving your butt. That is your seat. Sit there and focus on feeling that position. There are several things a rider must to in order to have balance. #1 toes up heals down this stops you from going forward, #2 You must have some weight distributed to your legs. Don't ride all on the butt . You need to have your stirrups short enough to here you can put about 45 percent of your weight on your legs. #3 You have to move your hips with the horses gate. You can not sit still in the saddle. # 4. Soften you shoulders down and feel you spine and tail bone on the horses back with your head and chin up. Feel you weight move all the way into your tail bone on the horse. Sit up, Chin up shoulders back and down. This will fix your issues.
