How to train a Samoyed not to bark. You're not alone if your Samoyed is always barking. 👉 Learn more about how to train your Samoyed to stop barking ➡️ • How To Train A Samoyed...
Samoyed dogs are very talkative. They like to bark. But, how to train them not to bark, is a great question. It can be done over time. You have to learn the reasons why your Samoyed is barking and stop it, before they begin barking.
Communication is important. Learn what your Samoyed dog is saying, because learning, is half the battle. They could need food, water, or to go outside. Perhaps they need to play.

@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace 3 жыл бұрын
The moment you stop cleaning, you have to begin again. You could do what I do and just let it go. There’s no way anyone can keep up. Brush them frequently and have plenty of those sticky lint rollers. Wood floors. They’ll kill all vacuums. The Dyson V11, though, is a great one. Cordless and can easily get inside all areas to remove the endless stream of fur that kills all other vacuums. Love my Dyson V11. It is expensive, but so worth it. Otherwise, you could use a commercial grade, Shop Vac. Made for commercialized wood and metal shops. It’s embarrassing for me to film anywhere else in our house, due to the constant shredded cardboard boxes and massive amounts of fur. I don’t even try to keep up. There’s no way you can. You can make it as clean as possible, but the moment they go outside in the rain....The second you have a cardboard box they want.....When they eat or drink.... Just do the best you can to stay on top of things. The biggest thing, is enjoy and love on your Sammy to your greatest ability.

Thank you for your content! We just got a puppy and he started vocalising a lot. Usually when he wants something, to play, or to come on the bed. We usually do that, wait for him to look at us, sit and calm down. But he still does it a lot. I saw people choosing to teach them the quiet command and the inside voice command, id love to know your opinion on those? Thank you 😊
@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! Yes, it’s true. Sammies love to talk and they always will throughout their lives. A great way to help tire them out so they’re not as likely to bark, is to anticipate what they want/need before the bark. Always bring them on multiple long walks daily. They’ll get excited, but you want him calm down before he gets hooked up to go. Sammies love routines. Pretty soon, they start herding you to do what’s on their schedule. Sticking to a set schedule makes a Sam very happy and less likely to bark. If you tell him no, he’ll bark more. Remove yourself from the room, close the door until he calms down. Once calm, open the door, ignore him and continue doing what you were doing.

Yeti isn’t good with ‘quiet.’ My first Sam, Chewy, had multiple different tones of barking, howling and yodeling. He knew the quiet bark. You can try to teach him ‘quiet.’ But, most of the time they’ll be like heck you Mom, I’m not going to be quiet.

@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace Жыл бұрын
I know it’s frustrating having a dog who doesn’t want to listen and who barks. Oh, the headaches! He’s probably barking due to excitement. Imagine being a dog. You get to go on a walk, be outside, sniff butts, smell each and every tree and fire hydrant. Who wouldn’t be excited? Bring him on more walks, in a quiet place where he isn’t as distracted. Don’t go where there are people. Just you and your dog. Bring high value treats and a squeaky toy your dog loves. When they’re barking, distract using the high value yummy treat and a toy. You’ll also want to sign up for our email list on www.YetisPlace.dog. I send a free article Yeti and I wrote on how to help stop barking, when you sign up for our email list.

@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace 2 жыл бұрын
All Sammies are just as stubborn. Every single one of them. He’s also just about to enter his Velociraptor stage. He enjoys it outside. So many new smells, new experiences, SQUIRRELS! You need to make coming inside much more exciting than SQUIRRELS. Go outside with a ball. His favorite ball. And his favorite toy too. Show him just the ball. Get him excited to fetch. Throw the ball, the whole time telling him to bring the ball to you. After he grabs the ball and is full out sprinting towards you, throw the other ball/toy. Keep doing that. You’ll tire his energy after a few runs and his mind, as he’s always wondering when the second ball/toy will be in motion. Oh, when you go outside to get him, ALWAYS have treats in your pockets. Once he’s tired and slower, get the treat and a leash. If he darts off, he’s not done playing. Do the double playtime again. Tire him out. Then, have him sit, hook him up to his leash, give the treat, go inside. He’ll be in nap time mode and so will you. Sammies respond to commands in different ways. Playtime is a good way to wear them out, both mentally and physically, so they listen.

What if ur dog continues barking after eating the treats? I can easily stop him from barking and sit nicely before giving the treat, but then once he finishes the treat, he will start barking again. What do I do then? Do i just continue to give him the treats until the treats run out???
@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. If you find the answer, let me know. In all seriousness, your dog is asking to play, go outside, rub the ears/belly. Have them earn their treats by playing games with their treats inside puzzles and blocks. Activate their minds, have them work to get their treats. Double benefit of getting them to work, is you also tire them out, which reduces the amount of barking.

Unfortunately, Sammies aren’t the best choice for a first time dog owner. They’re working dogs, who require a few long walks daily, extra grooming, are very determined dogs and who are destructive if they don’t get tons of playtime, walks and are allowed to work. I would say to get another breed of dog as your first pet. Get used to being a dog parent, grooming, caring for a dog and walking. Sammies are great dogs for those who understand how to work with a pet. Sammies require different, more in depth training than another breed of dog. They get too bored by just a simple sit, stay, come and down. I’ve owned a few dogs in my lifetime. My first Sammie, Chewy, ate my woodwork in my house, shredded my carpet into a giant 3 foot mound that resulted in needing it torn out and going to all wood floors in my house. Chewy ate my furniture. Basically, Chewy cost many thousands of dollars in damage to our house. But, I figured out how to work with him and he became a great dog and a wonderful introduction to Samoyeds. I’ve owned many different dog breeds throughout my life and none of them were as demanding, challenging and as special as owning a Samoyed. My heart will always be with this breed.

Samoyeds love everyone, jbag011. If you’re home with them when they’re young and spend a lot of time playing and walking them, they will consider you their best friend. Sammies don’t normally have one favorite person. They have a big group of favorites. They adore everyone. Yeti is closest to me, because I was home with him, when he was young. His Dad, brings him on a lot of long walks and provides plenty of playtime. He loves both of us equally. He considers me his master, because I trained him. My husband, is Yeti’s human chew toy.

Congratulations on your new Sammy. Tips are a lot of daily playtime to wear off energy. They bond very well with an owner who enjoys playing and spending lots of time with them. Plenty of daily walks. They’re working dogs who enjoy working and adventure. The more fun they have with you doing those things, the happier they are and the closer your bond.

Is it possible to replace barking by howling?
@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace 2 жыл бұрын
Their reasons for howling over barking, are their own. It’s difficult to control. Sammies bark in different tones, depending on what they want. My first Sam, would speak sentences of different tones. Yeti barks more. He occasionally howls, when he seems to be really content. Howls are unpredictable with Yeti. With my first, they happened more frequently and weren’t controlled. You can teach an ‘inside’ bark. Which is a lower volume. All Sams that I’ve known, only use it for one or two barks. Then they notice they’re not getting what they want, so they go back to normal barks.

I’m sorry to hear, Samantha. Sammies are one of the most talkative breeds. There are calming collars and scents. If you click on any of my blue linked codes, it’ll bring you to Amazon. Type in calming scents for dogs. They have collars and scents to help calm your dog, which will help take the edge off. Work on teaching the ‘Quiet’ command. When he’s barking, say ‘Quiet’ firmly. If he’s at the window, close the curtains. When he stops barking, immediately give a treat. When he gets to go on a walk and is barking out of excitement, get him calm, by saying ‘Quiet’ with a treat in your hand. Say ‘sit.’ Give a treat once sitting and quiet. He’ll learn that he gets treats when he’s quiet. I understand it’s frustrating. Really frustrating and headache inducing. Work on those tips, which will help calm him. You can also involve treats, plus a toy. But, only play if he’s quiet. That way, he’ll begin to learn that the only way he can play and get attention, is by being quiet.

I have to physically make her sit before putting her lead on. I will not reward disobediece like this and if I have the lead in my hand and she still won´t sit I will put the lead back on the wall. Other times she barks are when I am dealing with an agressive dog outside.... she hates confrontation and is saying to me somehting like "Human, I donñt want to get into a fight...let`s go....".... Crazy how we’re able to understand what our Sams tell us. Yeti gets really excited to go a walk. Too excited, that it causes him to suffer some type of mental tick. I haven’t been able to get the full event on camera for the vet. I’ve only had the end, where he’s really calm. The vet needs the beginning of it, but it doesn’t last too long. By the time I get my phone to record, it’s done. We normally try to keep him as calm as possible, because we don’t want that to happen. He goes back to his normal personality afterwards.

Work on building trust. Hand feeding is a great way to build it. Don’t pet your Sam on their head, until you’ve been rubbing under their chin or on another area for a bit. Sams are naturally hesitant with head rubs at first. Many love ear rubs. He might not roll over to rub his belly, depending on what had happened prior to you owning him.
