Hi Jordan! I put up a net placed 12 inches from the basement wall and practice 3rd shot drops from 10 to 18 ft. I chart 100 shots daily and it’s taken roughly a month to get to 70%. Your demonstrations are excellent and they do help...the lesson here is patience! The only thing I notice I had to adjust is that you don’t know from the wall how deep and how high your balls are dropping in the kitchen. I am adjusting as I play real games. Thanks!!!!
@primetimepickleball3 жыл бұрын
Great! Yes, I understand what you are saying. This is why I didn’t include any 3rd shot drop drills, because you can’t really tell how they are actually dropping in the kitchen. Anyways, keep practicing !

I changed the overhead drill slightly. If you direct the ball at the ground about a foot in front of the wall, it will rebound high enough for you to continuously smash the ball over and over. It will give you practice in directing the ball and moving under it to smash. I did this in my tennis playing days and my coach said my overhead was my best shot!

@@primetimepickleball can you answer if the ball bounces in the Kitchen you're allowed to hit the ball but if the ball bounces somewhere else and you hit it in the momentum brings you into the kitchen is that allowed? Since the ball has bounced, you've hit it over the net and you weren't standing in the kitchen, but the momentum pulls you into the kitchen is that a fault and you lose the point?

what is the purpose of a two-touch drill, please? 5:03 Is the Overhead practice so you can see how far to get YOUR shot or are you practicing defending against the lob? Thanks. 12:17
@primetimepickleball Жыл бұрын
Hi Eddie! The two touch drill is very effective for developing touch, feel and control of the ball. The overhead practice is for developing your overhead motion so that when you are lobbed, you can punish it with a strong overhead.

Hi, I appreciate you providing these drills, but I feel as though I could fly to the moon easier than I could hit volleys off of the wall like you show. I am wondering if there is a simpler drill to learn how to volley off of the wall like maybe dink/volley/dink etc until I get more proficient. Also, getting really specific in the instruction: where to stand, how to hold paddle, direction of feet, should I stand up tall or should I have my knees bent or straight, direction of the paddle, how high to hit the ball on the wall??-you get the idea. Thanks so much.
@primetimepickleball2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. The short answer… knees always slightly bent at least. Feet pointing forward. Typically continental grip on all the ones you mentioned. If you need to slow it down, do so, and hit higher off the wall in a bigger arc.

Another great video Jordan. The tips and camera work/angles are really good as always. You mention that the two-touch volley is good for developing control. Trying to understand how so. You can't double tap in a game, so how does this help? Loved the blooper reel.
@primetimepickleball3 жыл бұрын
The two touch drill takes extreme paddle control. You’ll find that out when you try it. It will work on “softening” the ball, and your overall paddle control. If you can do this easily, hitting great drop volleys and other shots which require a lot of touch, will be a lot easier.

Hi Jordan, you give great explanations. If I find a wall without a mark on it, how high should the mark be? I will bring some painter’s tape.

The mark should be at the height of the net so 34 inches or you can put it a little higher to represent the net height at sidelines which is 36 inches.

When I make an unforced error, I sometimes think the pros like Kyle Yates or Ben Johns would never do that. But when I see them make an error during a game, or watch your bloopers, I realize even 5.0+ players makes mistakes now and then, and that helps me to be a little less hard on myself.

Flat or a little backspin. The more backspin you send it with, the more it will bounce down off the wall.

When doing drill 2 volley against the wall, are you 7 feet away from the wall as in the NVZ?
@primetimepickleball Жыл бұрын
Do it from multiple distances. 7 feet is good and then further back is good too. Remember, you will hit volleys from behind the NVZ line as well. Also, hitting from further back is harder so if you can do that, the closer distance will get easier.
