About The Chloe Sanctuary:
Operated by Executive Director Don Scott, The Chloe Sanctuary for Parrots and Cockatoos is a 501(c) nonprofit charity dedicated to the empowerment of captive parrots and cockatoos, and public awareness. A permanent bird sanctuary, we rescue but do not rehome birds.
Each parrot or cockatoo that comes to our bird sanctuary has a home for life. Bird rescue is a 24/7 job. Parrot rescue is challenging because a parrot or cockatoo does not belong in a domestic household. They are wild animals. Most people do not have the resources to take in a bird, but anyone can still help parrots in need by giving a like and subscribe to a parrot youtuber.
By following our bird channel, you will learn about basic bird care and you will learn how to take care of a parrot. If you have a pet parrot, pet cockatoo or another pet bird, you should watch our bird videos. Sometimes I make funny parrot videos or talking parrot videos, but most of them are educational.
Bird care or parrot care is not like looking after a cat or dog, birds are not mammals and their needs are very different. Taking care of a bird can be a great joy in your life if you have the skills. The Chloe Sanctuary parrot channel will teach you about bird training and parrot training using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), reward training, positive reinforcement, and more. In our Cockatude Cockatoos with Attitude video series you will see our moluccan (seram), triton (sulfur-crested), and umbrella cockatoos (umbrella is the white parrot). Each episode has a different topic. In some you will see a parrot playing, a cockatoo talking, a parrot dancing, or other funny parrot antics. My funny birds love it in the aviary. Cecil bird dancing is quite the sight and everyone loves a dancing bird. In other videos we talk about avian vet care. A parrot talking is lots of fun, but remember not all of them do it. A talking parrot is a novelty which can wear off quickly. Never buy a parrot expecting it to talk.
Parrots talking like humans can be very entertaining though. Peaches talks very well, as does Lucy. Lucy says pretty bird and Peaches says hello. Peaches voice is very sweet, but a parrot voice can be loud or quiet. A parrot song can be beautiful or raucous.

i must say this video made my heart swell ............. my wish would be that everyone who wants or has a parrot could see you and your amazing lovable birds together. its a sight. what amazes me so is the love that they truly have for you. there is such peace around you , the calm you bring to them and the gentle touch they need. animals know whats inside us and thus respond and it shows with you deeply. im also overwhemed at how none of them are jealous and fight for your attention at all. they accept your movements , touches and love to another without reacting in any kind of aggression. birds are very smart and need so much love , patience and trust big time. and its so clear they have that all with you, thank God..............i will send you a donation in the upcoming months when i am in the position to do so and wish all of you nothing but days of sunshine and happiness....................karin from vancouver bc

There’s a whole lot more involved with these amazing creatures than one video can teach you. Do you know how to deal with a bird plucking its feathers, how are you gonna deal with the expense of a bird, do you have existing birds cockatoos don’t always get along well with other birds. I hope that you have done a whole lot more research than this one video. Cockatoos are the most rehomed pet on the planet. They are like having a five-year-old for up to 100 years. You need to do way more research, who will get the bird upon your own death etc…adopt an older one…give it all the love you can.

Omg omg you are living my dream. I'm. Beginner bird owner . I first had a bird that was my bf's grey then on my own I got luke my Quaker he was a rescue. Me was horribly abused and has old broken bones missing toes plucking. He was in a cage for a parakeet. His nails were overgrown having seed mix and was never handled. Now he's slowly coming around and will fly to me and is on a proper chop and pellets. He's so much more healthy and talking and happy . Bf & I split but just got a parakeet named Chris. We will see he's brand new to my house

Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Wow that a lot of cockatoos. My male just recused 2 weeks ago is similar to your that you taught to shake. He won’t accept treats but love to be held for award. I even tried click training doesn’t work with him. Only thing works is petting and holding him. Been working on flight training him. Already resolved bitting and other behavior issues and trained him to set up as before he would only step up by pushing him on my arm, but now reaches over and steps up normally and target training, as last owner didn’t care for him, or taught him anything. One issue is he still scared to make the jump back and forth from perch to perch, or my arm from a distance. He now reaching over to try. Eventually hoping he get their. He can fly already indoors fine without crashing into stuff and fine outside as he come back on his own as had him on a flight line but not by command yet. The problem is not use to command, or when he tries to he lands on ground and then steps up. He does stay on shoulder and step off on command. He just gets scared to fly off perches, or other objects yet, or jump from anything yet. Working indoors with him, so he can get use to whistle eventually. He is progressing as no longer have to push my arm up to him to get his to step up. He reach over now and step up on command. Just can’t he can jump and then fly’s over on command.

See.... I don't train my parrots to do anything.They can do what they want.I co-habitat with my feathered friends.In eccence,they are my family.I'm 55 and not married . I know....its never too late but women aren't going to inherit a 55 year old man and 10 parrots.Unless she's sloppy fat and fugly Anyway I made a commitment to keep my parrots and not putting them through going from one home to the next.I always dream about hitting the big lottery and what Is do with the money.First thing for me is to build a HUGE home with a HUGE aviary connected to it. most other people would think about traveling the world buying cars buying all fancy stuff I want to upgrade my bird lives and also adopt more parrots as of right now I have run out of room and time to take care of them

+Harry Hathaway I would hate to see one of your children if you don't send them to school. Ha ha. The training goes both ways we learn from each other. I use operant conditioning which helps them learn to make better choices for their own lives. This gives them life skills and doesn't turn them into circus performers.
@harryhathaway1086
@harryhathaway1086 7 жыл бұрын
ChloeSanctuary You still have patience of steel.My children ( my parrots ofcoarse) are spoiled. Example.....I bought some HUGE cages for cheap cause they were missing a side or missing hardware.I have 4 windows in my birdroom so I installed these cages outdoors butted up against each window.All I have to door is open a window and they can enjoy outdoors.They love it.I have a deck with a barbecue station next to these cages and they all come out and keep my company, and as you know they are great company.My birds are not a circus act.They are my friends,my family and I am committed to them for the long run.I'm 55 and hope I can continue being with them far down the road.I have people telling me I should get rid of them but these people have no idea of the intelligence individuality these souls have.They wouldn't get rid of their dog but to them that's different."Dogs are smart".These people have no idea how intelligent most parrots are.Ill bet your parrots have individual preferences over what treats they like more.That is intelligence and individuality.

I just found your channel tonight I love watching you and your beautiful birds. I can't stand seeing when people always leave know-it-all negative sounding comments that have when we have no experience in your field. But when I watch this it's like being that getting a bird to step up on your finger and arm is so similar to a handshake it seems like it's so confusing to the bar because they're thinking they're supposed to step up only to be told to stop so it seems like that's why it takes me so long to get it and it doesn't really know what he's accomplished maybe if he sees you shaking hands with human beans or with a dog it will make more sense to them I don't like confusing Birds even if they're doing it they still don't understand what the world's my daddy asking me to do that for. Much love ignore me if it sounded too judgemental cuz it's not just thinking out loud haha

It’s never a matter of choosing. Unless, of course, you are choosing to learn applied behavior analysis and study the biology, psychology and physiology of parrots. None of the cockatoos at the Sanctuary were chosen for their “good qualities.“ They were worked with using ABA and helped to make the right choices.

+Betty White the Cockatiel We don’t rehome because the public is not good with wild animals. Parrots are not domesticated. They can be tame but they are still wild. The majority of people trash these animals without even realizing they are doing it. This article of mine clarifies it: chloesanctuary.org/2017/04/29/helping-the-suffering/ Thank you for asking!

how do I stop a cockatoo from chewing up stuff my umbrella cockatoo loves chewing up electronics.
@ChloesanctuaryOrg
@ChloesanctuaryOrg 7 жыл бұрын
+CrazyGamerGirl using reward training you reshape the behavior of your bird into chewing wood of specific types in specific places. You must also be careful not to reward your bird by giving it excessive attention when it does something you don't want it to do. Instead, you read direct their attention to something else and give them positive rewards for doing the other behavior. This is the simplification but it is the basic method

Their voices are roughly 125 dB. That's the equivalent of standing by the runway and listening to a jumbo jet liner take off. Very difficult to keep them in apartments. I did it for a while and don't recommend it.

Hi! I need your advice please. I just adopted a 9 months old cockatoo 3 days ago. And suddenly he seems to be very afraid of me, and he doesn’t accept me anymore, but my wife and my 10 years old kid. Apparently he has no reason. He use to interact with the hole familly, but now when he sees me entering the room he hides in the cage, and it tremble. It doesn’t come to me anymore, but my familly. How can I regain his trust? Thanks.

They are complicated creatures, at least as complicated as we are.their ways of acting in the world are alien to us. I had to study applied behavior analysis to work with issues like the one you’re discussing and I don’t have any easy answers. A thorough study of the book: the manual of Parrot behavior would be a good place to start. The situations sometimes take a long time to overcome.

I just adopted a too that had been in an abusive/ neglectful home. He's obviously comfortable around me, but he's really nervous around people in general. He loves to be pet, but he steps away whenever you approach him. I refuse to put him in a cage as that was part of his abuse. I actually keep him on a double Java tree. Technically, he's free to go where he wants, but he doesn't. Any suggestions on how to get him to step up when he's so skittish?

Gave them freedom not in their Care all the time,they need to play and love attendson too!good luck with your bird.

Thanks a lot for your very informative videos. I just have a question. I got my cockatoo umbrella a month ago. I don't feel comfortable with his diet. I've been feeding him this parrot mix that has a lot of seeds, pellets, nuts, and dried fruits. He only eats the sunflower seeds. Is that normal? I tried giving him pieces of fresh apples. He would take it bite it into smaller pieces that he throws down without eating. He loves it when I give him peanuts that are still in the shell. He breaks the shell, starts to bite the peanuts and does the same like he does with apples. He just turns it into smaller pieces that he throws without eating. I don't know if this is normal or not. He doesn't seem to eat anything other than the sunflower seeds. Please help me on how to get him to eat other things.

+Mohammed Shaiea If you want him on a all pellet diet and then offer fruits/veggies as supplements. What I found that worked was to gradually introduce pellets, there's a couple of ways you can do it. One way is to mix a very small amount in his regular food and to gradually increase the amount over time.. will take months and months to gradually do this. You really have to make sure they are eating the pellets. Another way is to offer just the pellets in another dish that's more easily accessible to your bird. Put the dish in the cage near his favorite place to perch. Birds are curious, they will eventually try it.. they just need to figure out it's food. For the fruits and veggies, just keep doing what you're doing and offer the food. In the morning is a good time and at dinner is a good time to try new things. Birds like to eat what you are eating, so try eating it in front of him and give him some when he seems interested (not your piece of course lol)

@ChloesanctuaryOrg
@ChloesanctuaryOrg 8 жыл бұрын
+Yoshiko Yūjin hand-raising is a major problem. It is the core reason for feather picking, stereotypic behavior, neurosis and psychosis in captive parrots. Hey Mrs. central steps in their development by being raised by humans. To my knowledge, all of our residents were hand-raised.
