How to Transfer an Out of State Title to Florida

I’m moving to Florida but my vehicle registration from Texas is expired. I don’t want to have to renew it on Texas to then register in Florida a week later. Can I register in Florida with an expired registration?

We are sorry to hear about your confusion with this process. Valid insurance and a current registration are required to drive a car in Florida. However, if you re-locate to Florida, then you have 10 days to transfer the out of state title to a Florida title.

@@hillstax I'm not confused. I own the car and live in Idaho. My mother, who just moved to Florida, can't register the car or insure it because she's not the owner. I can do both, but I'd have to get the car titled in Florida first, but to do so, I'd have to be a Florida resident, which I'm not, nor do I plan on being. Hence, I'm forced to signing over ownership of the vehicle to my mother to end the debacle.

I am active duty military. I am Florida resident stationed in California. I purchased my car in Oklahoma and it was shipped to me here. Can I register the car without bringing it in physically? I could provide proof of Florida insurance, Title, and a Florida Drivers License.

Yes, if you are active military and need to register your vehicle in Florida, you may complete the transaction without physically bringing the vehicle to an office. You will have to submit a completed VIN verification form (Form 82042) along with your proof of Florida insurance, Title, and Florida driver license. The form must be completed by a Florida Compliance Examiner/Inspector(DMS/TC Employee), Military Police Officer/Law Enforcement Officer, or Florida Licensed Dealer. I’m going to privately sell my car to a Florida resident. i’m out of state. can i mail the title and bill of sale so he can get a temp tag? there is no way to get him a vin verification when the car is out of state. we need a temp tag to drive the car legally down into florida.

The purchaser can present an original out of state title properly signed over to them, valid US driver license/identification card, valid proof of Florida insurance for the vehicle, and request a 10 day temporary tag to facilitate bringing the vehicle to our offices for a VIN verification. All this shit?? Why they need a VIN verification when I own the car & the title shows the VIN? I don’t get why Florida makes it so damn hard to transfer your license to the state!

Thank you for your inquiry. Per Florida statute, a VIN verification is required for all vehicles being transferred from out of state and the verification must be completed by an authorized personnel. The form referenced in the video (82040) includes a list of authorized personnel.
