How important are extra curricular activities, awards, and your resume (such as the jobs or internships you did) for the transfer applicant process? Is it just as important as getting good grades? And also did you have any of the sort?
@aninabaker5 жыл бұрын
Hey Ryan! Extracurriculars are super important (some fun, some career oriented etc). It's not just about your grades it's about what contributions you're going to bring to their campus. They want someone who is going to get involved and make a difference. Awards - unless it's a really prestigious award I can't see it making a big difference but it never hurts. Jobs and Internships are definitely important. It shows your ambition, commitment, and drive to learn. It's impossible to say if these things matter more, the same, or less than grades because different schools look for different things during different years. However they definitely help your application and can even make up for lack of good grades sometimes. Good luck!

How would you know when it’s appropriate to ask a professor for a letter of recommendation? I go to office hours for most of my professors and they know who I am but I am but im not sure if they know me beyond homework and study questions
@aninabaker65395 жыл бұрын
Well then I'd say choose a couple of your favorites and go in and talk to them on a less academic level. Like go and talk to them about their research and how they got into their field. That's always a good starting point for creating a relationship with them. But I think you going to office hours still speaks to a lot because it shows you care and are putting in the work

I’m trying to transfer from UW to a small liberal arts college. I find that getting to know my professors is difficult and was wondering if you have any advice on how to obtain an academic LOR within a relatively short period of time.
@aninabaker6 жыл бұрын
Hmm thats a tough one. I went to a large school too but was pretty close with a couple profs. You could talk to anyone that might know you at all like it doesn't have to be within your major like if you've gone to their office hours or could be like a prof that has been the supervisor for a lab/club/an extra curricular you're in. One of my letters was from a post doc/TA that knew me well. You can also offer to write it for them or give them a list of things you want them to know or say about you! This helps them if they don't know you well/don't know what you want highlighted and makes the job easier for them. Other than that I would say just go make appointments or go to OHs and talk to a few profs a lot and consistently in the time you have about your life/their life/their research etc. Good luck!

small liberal arts colleges are SO easy to work with, you will realize that reaching out to a professor is so easy. The classes will be smaller so it feels just like high school. It will be super easy to connect with teachers.

do you have any advice on how to get scholarships/money as a transfer?
@aninabaker65395 жыл бұрын
Honestly I'd say apply to everything you can, like any local scholarships, and larger online ones. My friend even wrote the financial aid people (at a smaller school) and simply asked/appealed for more money and it worked for her. Unfortunately its really hard to get money for some schools and is a huge factor I considered when picking what school I wanted to go to. Schools are really stingy with money for transfers :( Hope that helps!

Hi, I plan on applying to transfer as soon as my semester ends on the 14th. I am a division 3 lacrosse player in New Jersey but I want to become a student fulltime at a bigger school for my academics. I have a 3.8 GPA right now but my grades were slightly above average throughout High School so I am unsure what my chances are looking like. As a former transfer, what do you think?

I was wondering if you used the Common App to transfer. If so, how did you (or your college) upload the official transcript?
@aninabaker6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I did for the non UC schools, I talk a bit about it in the vid! :) In my experience and from all other experiences I've heard of you're generally not allowed to upload your official transcript because it has to come directly from the school to be official. So for all my apps I had to get the registrar to send my official transcripts to the other schools office of admissions. Hope that helps!

Do you think the university’s care to much about your actual school’s statistics/acceptance rates/rank?
@aninabaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry for the late response! It might be a small factor but if you're doing well at the school and doing what you can to get involved and show them you take initiative in pursing your academic interests then it wont matter much and definitely won't make or break your application!
@aninabaker3 жыл бұрын
Also if one went to a school with "worse stats" or a higher acceptance rate and was doing well, that would look much better than a person going to a "top" school but doing badly. Hope thats helpful!

Hi! Yeah as long as you have the requirements down. For UCs and CSUs you have to be junior standing but that is dependent on the amount of units you have not your time in school.
