I tried this (M2 Mini to M4 Mini) and it’s been sitting for about 10 hours and made no progress. It just says “looking for files to transfer.” Any idea what I need to do to make this go..?

Hello. Whenever I select the Mac I want to transfer from, it says “this source contains a newer release of macos. Your Mac requires an update before you can migrate from this source” what should I do?

Do you have to update to the newest MacOS when transferring to the new one? I would like to keep the same OS version as my old for a number of reasons.

I migrated from a 2013 Intel based MacBook Pro to the first Mac Studio M1 Max a couple of years ago without a single issue. It was the first time I had used MA and was very impressed.

Yes, but transferring with the thunderbolt 4 is much faster especially if there is lots of data.

Manual through thunderbolt 4 is always faster, but you probably would be fine using iCloud or transferring over Wi-Fi if it's a few files. You could even set the Mac up as new and use a USB thumb drive to transfer the few files after getting to the Home Screen.
