Hi, I'm moving a mac desktop (OS Big Sur 11.7.4) to the latest MacBook Pro 4 (Sequoia 15). Since they are 10 years apart, will this type of Transfer Migration even work? Would you suggest just going from my external in Time Machine? This would NOT be my first choice since my external has saved many photos and other files I have since removed and cleaned up; I would have to start that entire process again if I opt for that type of transfer I believe. I'd love your input on this conundrum! Thank you!

I am getting ready to do this tomorrow. This was just the video I was looking for. +1 for the thunderbolt cable trick. I only have a TB3 cable but that will still be faster than WiFi

Hello, great video but the question I have is once everything is transferred how can you separate the two macbooks. You mentioned that if you delete a file on the old mac it would delete on the new mac. I want to be able to use both macs separately but keep the data that is on them there. Eventually I will be deleting files off the old mac but will want them on my new mac. appreciate your thoughts

Hello Aaron, I want to transfer data from my old MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) to a MacBook pro m4 and I am stymied .... it seems that it is impossible to transfer using a Thunderbolt cable, at least as far as my research is concerned. If my assumption is incorrect, is there a way to do so without using Backup or WiFi ?
@nickwgash3760Ай бұрын
You can use a USB to a USB C cable. It's just slower. I used a SSD Time Machine backup linked to a USB C dongle with an ordinary USB port.

I was pleasantly surprised to see this video as it covers all the bases to transfer your data. I'm a long time Mac user but things change over time and I wasn't looking forward to doing the research. Thank you Aaron! I’d like to ask you a recommendation.. would you go for a MacBook Air m2 8-256 for light video editing (1 weekly 4k 10-15min video) or +23% or for 16gb or 38% more for m3 8-256? The lower price would grant a sooner upgrade in the upgrade 🤔

I just tried this about a week ago. had a Mac laptop with an M1 chip to a brand new mini with an M4 chip. What a mess this transfer ended up after the migration tool was done. I struggled with the mini trying to get all the bugs fixed . It was so bad that I finally dumped the whole mess that the migration tool made out of a brand new mini. Erased the mini and started over with it only. Took me about a day to get the new mini setup just like the old laptop. Love the new Mini, would never again use the migration ever again.

Also, because I have lately streamed videos from KZbin, Rumble, and Epoch TV on my Samsung TV it seems that my phone has decided that this is the default and I have to change it back to my phone. I think that is odd. Didn’t have this problem with the previous iOS 17 versions. Anyway, just wanted to let you. Love your channel. I learn so much. Thank you. Happy thanksgiving. 😊

How about from a MAC to Windows? Macs have become very expensive.
@sbconsultАй бұрын
True but the new M4 Mac mini for $599 is a beast! But adding more RAM and Hard Disk space is insanely expensive. Use External SSD's instead and hopefully you don't need more than the base RAM of 16GB as your stuck paying what I consider to be Apple simply ripping us off. Hate to see you go to Windows but your needs may up the price of a new Mac really fast.
